The House resort in St. James, Barbados, epitomizes lavish luxury and indulgence from first greeting to final farewell. Nestled in the pristine opalescent beaches of the Gold Coast of Barbados, this adults-only, couples-oriented resort greets guests with a welcome beverage and "jet lag revival massage." Each couple is assigned a personal ambassador who has one simple task: cater to the guests' every comfort. Visitors can soak up the sun on the unspoiled beaches while personal ambassadors deliver cold towels, fruit and chilled beverages. Guests can enjoy complimentary use of personal watersports equipment such as snorkeling gear, boogie boards, windsurfers, kayaks and small sailboats. Water taxis can transport guests to area facilities that offer scuba diving instruction and excursions, parasailing and glass-bottom boat trips. The House's 32 guest suites are arranged around an open courtyard with a magnificent tropical garden and sparkling pond. The cool tropical ambience is actualized with a décor of immaculate white walls, curtains with sparkling blue accents, and mahogany and rattan furniture on resplendent floors of terra cotta tile with straw area rugs. The bi-level outdoor pool features a 15-foot jetted section and a scallop-shaped 36-foot swimming area. Complimentary full American/English breakfast buffets, high tea and evening appetizers are provided. Chefs at Daphne's have perfected an Italian menu with a Caribbean accent for seasonal lunches and year-round dinners in an open-air beachfront restaurant. The Deck is open 24 hours, serving breakfast, lunch and snacks.
Guest suites are spacious, open-air private residences and feature balconies or ground floor patios with full ocean or garden views. Fine white Italian linens and goose-down comforters wrap guests in luxury. Pale marble bathrooms feature twin vanity sinks, and suites are equipped with minibars, refrigerators and espresso machines.

Directions
Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI): Approximate driving time is 30 minutes and distance is 24 km (15 miles). Driving directions from Grantley Adams International Airport: Narrow, unmarked roads and streets, numerous roundabouts, and heavy traffic along certain routes at certain times make driving through Barbados challenging. Guests renting cars should request a detailed map from the airport to the resort. Also, the Elegant Hotels desk at the airport can provide detailed directions. Getting there: A taxi from Grantley Adams International Airport costs $26-$35 for 1-4 passengers. (Rates are set by the government and subject to change.) Although taxis are readily available, it's best to request a taxi at the Elegant Hotels desk in the airport. Car rentals are available online. Driving is on the left side, British- style. Getting around: Resort staff call taxis on request. Public buses operate past the resort.

Needs a Refurbishment and good cleaners
My wife and I stayed at the house for our recent honeymoon. The staff members were courteous and helpful. The hotel itself was quite nice, except the rooms. Upon arrival we noticed the double bed was actually 2 single beds zipped together. We requested a double mattress as this was or honeymoon and sleeping in the middle of the bed was uncomfortable. It took 3 days and 3 separate requests to 3 separate people to finally get something done and the mattress replaced. The bathroom badly needs refurbishment ( I am 191cm tall and couldnt stand up under the shower , and the bath was so small I could barely get into it and even then it was hardly deeper than hip deep ). Grout and tiles in the bath / shower need a good cleaning and fixing. One particular night I found a cockroach making a run across the floor of the bathroom. The cleaners did a really poor job , frequently we found beach sand and hairs on the floors that were supposedly clean. Soap provided by the hotels were randomly refilled , sometimes not at all. Complaints to the manager at the time fixed the issues for a few days after which they returned to normal. Beachside service was excellent, the staff always jovial and knowledgeable. I dont think we will be going back here , unless some serious improvements are made.

First Class Chillin'
I would recommend Heatwave for a day trip on a catamaran. The crew were fantastic, non-stop drinks, cool tunes and great food.

It was okay
To be honest, the hotel was nice. The ambasadors were very nice but not very quick. If I went back to Barbados i would not stay here, not because the hotel was bad just because I would expect more for the money you have to shell out. I guess it depends on what type of vacation you want to have. If you want to just relax and hang on the beach, this hotel is for you.

Unbeatable service and location
There are some great restaurants but The Cliff is a stunning open air restaurant overlooking the sea, Mango's was great and Aqua is also in a spectacular setting. The 'Ambassadors' at the hotel will book a table for you
