A short guide to: Cultural District - Japantown

Nearby, City Hall’s golden dome sparkles amid the Civic Center’s concrete gray. The live arts thrive at the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center, one of the nation’s largest. A five-tiered Peace Pagoda marks Japantown. Castro District, the city’s main gay neighborhood, is a short ride away, as is Haight-Ashbury, the counterculture bastion that is a gateway to Golden Gate Park.

Good value for the cost

Clean hotel, a little dated but comfortable. Lovely breakfast and nice bar. The area isn't great with a number of homeless around, but never had any hassle, in fact many wished us a happy holiday. Would recommend this hotel for the price.

Not Great

Service was great but it's an old, musty building with a noisy radiator.

affordable for budget traveler, crappy area.

I've stayed here twice because it is cheap. If your situation requires a cheap stay, then this should work for you. For me, I just need a place to sleep at night. I don't spend much time I'm the room during the day. I'm always out and about. Be carefully coming home late night, this is in the tenderloin. Not a nice area.

Would Actively NOT recommend this hotel

No amenities at all, 1 icemaker to 6 flrs rooms & it was in garage, pop/candy machines in garage also & empty!, & not one coffeemaker anywhere, not even in fancy bar connected to lobby open briefly. Continental brkfst was embarassing in lack of quality, taste, volume. 1 staff person friendly out of 8 met, most rude and impatient. Only good thing was close to BART.(7 blocks not 4 as was told) NOT GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD for tourists, recommend taxi service direct to hotel if u must stay. Plan on bringing food/bevs, nothing needing heating. Free bus tour 20 minutes not 2 hr as told, even needed to travel to downtown to do that!

It's ok but I wouldn't go back..

Well to begin.. one of the features was free parking but when I got there it was so hard to find their parking area. It was directly in the city so driving is hard as it is. Then, went inside to ask but it was closed? That's weird. Closed for the weekend. The rooms were ok.. pretty old. the bathroom was pretty scary. Simply old style & the heater had a lot of black stuff on it. And the hallways of the hotel looked like Titanic when Rose was trying to save Jack. Pipes and it wasn't just comforting.
