A short guide to: Union Square - Convention Center

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman’s Wharf.

It's different...

I was in town to run a the Nike Women's Marathon. It was in a very good location; right off of Union Square and next to the gates for Chinatown. The layout and overall vibe of the hotel was great. Very artsy. The different works of art added something different and special to each floor and room. I'd definitely go back. It was just difficult to get around after the marathon because my bathroom was not connected to my room, and the elevator requires a bit of muscle to open the door.

Great location

It's basically a no frills hotel but the staff is extremely helpful and the you can't beat the location (right by chinatown, near lots of shopping and plenty of bus stops around). My room was on the second floor facing the alley. In the early hours of the morning, the noise from the bars and stores cleaning up can be very loud. I paid a little extra for a private bathroom which was small and cramped but adequate. As a single female traveling alone, I felt very safe in this hotel and in this neighorhood after dark. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Looks better in the website

Very well located. Rooms too small and the bed is not comfortable, the bathroom is extremely petite. I would recommended it for single travelers or youth. Though everything was clean, there was a particular "smell" at the hotel that didn't like.

Miserable room

I didn't get a decent night's sleep the entire four nights I was here. It was miserable and I will never stay here again. The worst was the mattress. It was hard and uneven, with hills, valleys, and springs everywhere. There was no desk lamp. There was no vanity light in the bathroom. The old sink had two separate faucets, making warm water impossible to get. There was also no vanity counter in the bathroom... not even a shelf, so no place to set toiletries. The hot water faucet was half-broken. The toilet was also half-broken in several ways. There was a giant glob of dried toothpaste on the wall when I checked in. It was still there when I checked out. There were no bed-side lamps, nor a switch to turn off the room light from the bed. The art on the walls is mostly nice, but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, unless they seriously update the place by replacing the mattresses, adding some lamps, and completely gutting and re-doing the bathrooms.

Under the Sea

This hotel was great! Every floor and room (i suppose) have a theme, and they have the art to prove it. Its a small room, but very comfortable. Shared bathroom was never a problem, never busy; clean and hot water. I stayed here for a weekend to party in San Francisco. The location is great from all the nightlife you would want. Get a taxi to any hot spot and it wont be more than 10 bucks!

Great location...great rooms!

After climbing the city's steepest and tiniest stairway, soon appeared the minimal and modern "lobby." Once in our room, a spontaneous photo shoot ensued.... all inspired by the gorgeous gold and blue "peacock" room. A great hotel for a great price, all located right outside the gateway to Chinatown. Perfect for the hipster, indie, pop art-loving person in all of us.

So much fun!

It is a very nice place to go for college students who don't want to pay a lot of money and you get to stay in the heart of San Francisco. It is very close to all public transportation, and shopping.
