Be sure to book alcatraz at least 2 weeks in advance to be sure of a place. The cable car will drop you right at lombard street the "crookedest" street in the world. There is a nice restaurant right next door to the hotel.

When we arrived to check-in, we were told that they were having maintenance issues and that because of that we had been upgraded to a double, but the room was smoking. The person responded, , "It's okay, it's not your fault" which I thought was a strange response, because of course it wasn't my fault (he definitely wasn't joking either). He then started speaking to me in Spanish (my last name is Spanish), but I don't speak Spanish. I had to tell him that I didn't speak Spanish. Again, very strange. The room was okay, and fortunately did not smell that smoky. It has very modern decor, and was very quiet. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very small, and I kept bumping into things. The other staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great, and the price was also great. Hopefully I just interacted with the wrong people there, and they were going through an unfortunate incident with their plumbing.

there are many shopping opportunities nearby, but look around for inexpensive food and cheaper shopping , also nearby, but you need to look a little . dont look for restaurant when hungry or shop when you only have 5 minutes to spare.

Take the BART subway from the airport to the Powell street stop. The King George is only a couple of blocks up the street. Much cheaper than a taxi.

If you want to visit Alcatraz, check what season you are travelling for tourist peak periods...I was disappointed as this was one the main attractions I wanted to explore and was dismayed to find out that during peak periods the boat trips to the famous prison were booked up to months in advance. Hence, if you want to visit the island book on line in advance to be assured of a place.

A lovely position, very central, very clean and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Although our stay was short we would not hesitate to recommend the King George and would hope to return to your beautiful City and the King George one day.

Very cute boutique hotel! Comfy bed, nice lounge, lots of character! Great location, very quick to Muni and Bart. Will stay here on our next trip to SF.
