The hotel is in a great location for shopping/dining. The staff was friendly. Our room was small which didn't matter much since we didn't plan on spending much time in it. The bed was actually comfortable. The closet was one and a half times bigger than the bathroom. We had a view of the building next door. Our room was on the 8th floor and very cold late at night. The heat was a radiator heater controlled by the front desk. When we called to ask them to turn on the heat and we were told it would be about 20 minutes to reach us. The did send up a portable radiator heater which was better than nothing I guess. The heat from the main heater never came on so our room was chilly all night and not very comfortable in the morning. Be aware of the parking. Self-park doesn't really mean self-park: You drive your car to the garage, about 2 blocks away, then you still have to give your car over to an attendant instead of choosing your own spot, so you still have trust a stranger with your car.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past ten years and have always been very satisfied with the hotel. It is small, friendly and extermely convenient. The latest upgrades of this boutique hotel (including a name change, which momentarily threw us) have improved it even more. Recommended as great value for money, with excelptional service and a location - a block from Union Square - that cannot be beat.

From the time we checked in until departure all staff were cheerful in their total assistance. The service alone would make this hotel my place to stay again, (our first San Francisco visit). Small rooms, but we did not spend much time there! Also, excellent location; walked everywhere.

We stayed in the Larkspur Hotel, San Francisco a few days ago at the beginning of our Californian roadtrip & really enjoyed our welcome to the city here. The rooms are clean & central being really close to Union Square. We particularly enjoyed having free email access & a happy hour too!

You can't beat being 2 blocks from Union Sq. It's basically an old apartment building converted into a hotel. Our room was like a studio apartment (with no kitchen). It's small but had everything we needed. You could hear the noise from the hallway and in the next room though. Service was good. The staff seemed to enjoy their jobs.

Great location. Near many restaurants, public transportation and shopping. Starbucks around the corner. My first night I had a room with a loud a/c unit that kept me awake. They changed my room the next day with no problem. If you need quiet, ask for a room towards the back of the hotel. Great ammenities like free samples in the room and nice shampoo and soaps. Coffee only for breakfast.

I got stuck with a single bed, the knob on the A/C was missing and I had to deal with maintenance replacing it, the overhead fan/light had only on and off settings despite the fact they had a remote, and I spent about an hour dealing with the front desk/tech people trying to get on the internet. This is NOT a business hotel - maybe for leisure because they had what looked like a nice wine hour in the evening, but don't stay here if you are on business!

This is definitely somewhere I would stay again. The location is excellent for exploring San Francisco, being about 50 metres from a cable car stop and within easy walking distance of the muni and BART stations. The main shopping district is more or less on the doorstep as well. The hotel has recently been renovated and the furnishings and decoration are in good condition. The room I stayed didn't have air con though so I am not sure if this would be an issue at certain times of the year.
