Description

Location. Occupying the top 11 floors of a 48-story building in the financial district, the Mandarin Oriental San Francisco towers over the city of San Francisco, Calif. The California Street Cable Car is located one-half block from this property.
Hotel Features. The Mandarin Oriental features an Asian-inspired lobby dramatically defined with cream, gold and black color schemes. Silk wall treatments and hand-painted silk chandeliers ornament Silks Restaurant. This fine-dining establishment blends Pacific Rim influences with West Coast signature dishes. The lobby-level Mobar Lounge serves appetizers and a selection of cocktails. A 24-hour staffed business center houses three flat-screen computers and offers a range of business services. Complimentary wireless Internet access is provided in public areas. Five rooms offer 3,900 square feet of function space that accommodates group events. A fitness center features cardiovascular machines equipped with individual televisions and headsets, and strength-training machines. Chinese and Swedish massage may be scheduled. The hotel offers discounted passes to a fitness center located across the street. Clefs d'Or concierge staff respond to guests' requests.

Guestrooms. The Mandarin Oriental San Francisco offers 158 guestrooms that occupy floors 38-48. Guestrooms feature beds draped beneath 440-thread-count Egyptian-cotton sheets. Color palettes reflect cinnamon-red hues that play colorfully against the rooms' Asian accents. Bathrooms are clad in Italian marble and are stocked with Molton Brown or Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. Beds are oversized and raised slightly higher than normal to afford comfortably reclined views of bay and city nighttime panoramas. Bedside controls dim the lights. Wood furnishings are crafted from mahogany and feature gold-leaf accents. Sheer window treatments are delicately designed with ginko-leaf patterns. All rooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access for a fee, flat-panel televisions, and CD and DVD players.

Expert Tip. The Mandarin Oriental San Francisco is the third-tallest building in San Francisco. So spectacular are the hotel's unobstructed city and bay views that guests are supplied with binoculars.

Great place to stay while in San Francisco

Great Hotel. The only thing not satisfied with was the room service and the restaurant.

View, it's not only the view

Simply the best hotel in San Francisco. Fantastic view, ideal location (California St.), excellent service. Very satisfying indeed.

Excellent

Visited to celebrate an anniversary. The services from the concierges were execllent before and during the trip, and the room was very well appointed. Would definitely go back.

seems like a 3 star hotel...

the room and elevator is WAY too small for a five star hotel. people at the desk tried to charge the drink that we didn't drink. parking fee is $45 dollars per day...what do you think about it?

Delightful staff!

The staff at the Mandarin Oriental were the most impressive I have encountered. It seemed nothing was too much trouble for them. The guaranteed high floor (the hotel is only on the highest floors of the building) mean that a great view is guaranteed - although it is of course worth paying a little extra for a view of the bay. The only drawback is that you can't expect to get this kind of service and room cheap, but if money is not tight it is worth the extra.

NOT WHAT YOU'D EXPECT

For the Mandarin's star rating you would expect a lot more. Employees are great but management has a total disregard for their Patron's comfort. Services (such as the lounge) were taken from guests and given to private parties with NO notice or any attempt at another form of satisfaction for guests. Only 2 elevators and one was constantly in repair. The restaurant "Silks" is vastly overrated. Do yourself a favor and go to the Fairmont.

Fabulous in every way

Everything was lovely--room decor and comfort. Service top notch--housekeeping put ice in the bucket w/o being asked, front desk, concierge and valet employees all great. Lots of high end hotels claim to have great service but few really do--this one does.

a room with a view

beautiful views from the room. very friendly staff. the front desk was a bit small, which made for a little bit of waiting in line, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Great location...get High floor room...poor/slow service

Fine except for room service and valet...both slow/confused(ing)and way too expensive! Bar is small and closes early...high-floors are a MUST!

Almost Right

New Management and selective upgrades still miss the mark set by other San Francisco five star hotels - come on, can movies on demand be that difficult to provide for one of the City's best known, high end hotels? Just a bit dated and staff that needs time to gel.
