Description

The landmark Phoenix Hotel, San Francisco, Calif., is known as the renowned "rock 'n roll hotel." Located at the edge of the hardscrabble Tenderloin neighborhood, the Phoenix is within walking distance of the city's hottest nightclubs and the Civic Center's opera house, symphony hall, civic auditorium, main library and Asian Art Museum. The Phoenix is close to the Glide Memorial United Methodist Church, which religious scholars claim is where the standards for effective inner-urban ministries began.
The hotel rose from being a 1950s-era motor lodge to a unique place with its own nightspot, the Bambuddha, which also serves Southeast Asian cuisine. In addition, the hotel's central courtyard, which is popular with celebrities, is a good place for guests to check out visiting artists and entertainers. The courtyard also features a heated pool. Guests also can enjoy complimentary continental breakfasts in the hotel or poolside.

Retro style guestrooms are spacious and feature tropical bungalow stylings, tropical-print bedspreads, original local art, handmade bamboo furniture, windows that open and cable TV.

At the Phoenix, the steady stream of rock and film stars, the tropical 1950s motor-court architecture, Bambuddha and thatched-roof bungalows make are what make this hotel special for those nostalgic guests. Where else but the Phoenix, a Joie de Vivre boutique hotel, can guests get complimentary tattoos upon check-in.

Fun, trendy and a great value.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Phoenix Hotel. The atmosphere was great and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable; we received a great recommendation from staff at the front desk for a local Sushi bar that was one of the many highlights of our trip. We would recommend the Phoenix Hotel to our friends looking to experience something unique. There is sort of a good time atmosphere, so early sleepers may not enjoy weekends there.

Everything was almost perfect exept for the noise....

Try to get a room far from the bar....rooms 53 to 60 might be a smart choice!!

had a Rockin' time!

3 girls spent a night at the Phoenix and had a great time. The hotel is so cool looking, an oasis in the big city, beautiful palms and plants in the courtyard and surrounding the pool. cute little tiki huts and an unexpectedly nice free breakfast made the morning nice. the bar was closed the night we stayed (sunday) but the menu looked sooo yummy! we heard no noise during the night and the light blocking curtains made for a good night sleep. this hotel accepts no children and i would recommend it for a couple or younger crowd, lots of fun!
