I really enjoyed staying at the Red Vic! It was exactly what I had expected, and more! The rooms are all different (I had a chance to review them all while I was there) and we stayed in the Rainbow Room, which had beautiful large windows that overlooked HAIGHT and COLE st. There was a cute little round table and chairs for two, so in the evenings my partner and I would people-watch out our window. The bed was comfortable and had a rainbow-coloured canopy. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and the food and coffee were great! Breakfast was wonderful, so much variety, and organic coffee to boot! Really a great time!!!!!!! My partner and I decided we're going to go back every 2 years and stay in a different room every time :)

We had a most enjoyable time at the Red Victorian. The only drawback is the parking, but it is San Francisco and it goes with the territory. We were on the street and it was a little noisy at night, but we loved sitting and watching the "street scene" during the day. If you want to spend some quality time in the Haight this is the place to stay

My husband and I decided to spend our honeymoon in San Francisco, and I couldn't think of a better place to start our trip. The Haight-Ashbury area has plenty of wonderful places to visit, all within walking distance. The Red Vic was comfortable yet quirky. All of the rooms have a different theme, all with a unique charm (be warned, not all rooms have private bathrooms). I can't wait to go back again and stay in a different room.

The hotel is very colorful. The windows open to arrangements of plants/flowers. Staff is friendly. Our room had a musty smell and we were only given 1 soap for a 5 day stay. Bathrooms are outside the rooms but it worked out OK. This area of Haight St. has alot of street people. We were not bothered but we also did not go out walking at night.

Red Vic lacks many of the traditional amenities like TV, ice machines, and private baths (in most rooms), but it is a great alternative adventure. We stayed in the Rainbow Room, which has an open bay window overlooking Haight St. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet, considering the proximity of our room to the street below. The area is full of interesting characters, but we always felt safe while we walked the streets in this eclectic neighborhood. Remember, this is Haight-Ashbury, it's not supposed to be sanitized. There are many unique restaurants and shops, and the food prices in the area are quite reasonable. The area shops begin to close around 7 pm and by 9 pm the only sounds came from a few young guys that gathered around the street corner to play guitar. They were pretty peaceful, and we could barely hear them even with the windows open. The shared bathrooms weren't a problem at all. There are enough available that we never had to wait for one to open. Public transportation is the way to go in SF and the buses run often, taking you downtown or to the Wharf with only a single transfer. Most people in the city are very helpful and we made our way around like old pros with a bit of help from the locals. Meeting the people on the street, on the bus, and in the shops is all part of the fun of visiting this area. If you're looking for something fun and a little different, and don't mind a couple of nights with no TV, this is a great place to stay.

We enjoyed our stay very much. It was the first time we ever stayed in a "shared bathroom" room and it was perfectly fine. You have a choice of different bathrooms. I would recommend they improve the shower plumbing in the Aquarian bathroom, but you know what? The place generally just rocked with wholesome hippie goodness. We would definitely stay there again.
