Great hotel in a great location, concierge service was helpful. Clean, spacious room. Very friendly staff. Terrific value with the continental breakfast.

Firstly San Fran & The Hotel Donatello were excellent, the Hotel was one block away from Union Square and therefore near everything we needed to get around ie. Tram line, BART and Muni system. We did experience some disco noise on the saturday night but it didn't stop us from sleeping (7th floor)The Pastry breakfast was a nice addition as most hotels do not offer anything in their price. You could also get free tea, coffee, hot chocolate throughout the day & evening if you wished in the Club lounge. Also the small gym, jacuzzi & Sauna were a nice extra. The room was just as described, very clean and a great bed. The spoil of our trip was the United flight we had been squashed into, we were booked on a BMI flight which was joined with lots of other companies to fill the one United Flight. The Jumbo must have been as old as the Ark, firstly we were sat separately as they had taken to many bookings for the one flight, there were no TV screens anywhere in coach so they pulled down one cloth screen at the front of the section and that was it - we were finally put together near the back of the plane so had no chance of seeing the screen without binoculars!!!! 11 hours of nothing in a cramped seat - not a pleasant start to the journey. Our return journey was slightly better as we did get moved to Economy plus.

We used public transportation for our entire week and the Donatello was in a perfect spot. Close to train, bus and steetcar. There was diner style restaurant a block away which was had good food. The morning continental breakfast at the Donatello was always well stocked when we got there at about 7:30. There was coffee and tea available in the evening. The room was large and very comfortable. The front desk, the concierge desk and the maid service were always friendly and willing to help with any questions or needs. We were very pleased.

My neice and I recently stayed at the Donatello, and we liked the hotel but were shocked by the noise outside our door on our first night -- kids running and crying, drunken adults yelling. It turns out that there is a banquet/meeting room on the same floor as guest rooms! When I called to complain, the man at the desk said he'd never had a complaint such as mine (hard to believe) and offered to move us. Since it was almost 10:00 PM and we'd showered and unpacked, we didn't want to move. He sent someone us to close the door to the banquet room (?), in hopes of keeping in the noise I guess. Well, it didn't help much, and when the banquet room emptied, all the occupants had to walk past the guest rooms to get to the elevator -- so even more noise. Honestly, though, the hotel is nice, clean and located a block from Union Square. The staff was great, too -- not their fault someone thought banquet rooms and guest rooms were a good combo. So, I recommend the hotel, but advise you to request a new room if they try to put you on the 5th floor.

We had a great experience at the Donatello hotel. Everything I had seen and read on their website was completely accurate. Our rooms were a lot bigger than other hotels I had looked in to prior to booking at the Donatello. Our view wasn't the greatest but we were away from the street so didn't have an issue with the noise as I had read from other reviewers. The location was perfect - right in the heart of Union Square and close to the trains/cable cars. When booking, I didn't realize there was a hot tub on the top floor...what a bonus after walking up and down those San Francisco hills all day long! We also took advantage of the Continental breakfast (also on the top floor, with a great view.) It was nice to enjoy a free breakfast since we were spending so much in the city for lunch and dinner.

We previously stayed at another nearby hotel by Union Square as we quite like boutique hotels and love the location, and the Donatello is literally across the street. What a pleasant surprise, the staff are superb, friendly and efficient, the surroundings in both the club lounge(with complimentary continental breakfast on the roof - fab) and public areas are beautiful and yet intimate, everything is sparkling clean and the rooms are big, quiet and furnished to an excellent standard with (unusually for SF) a half kitchen containing coffee maker and a fridge. We became aware that the rooms are part-owned (timescare) but we weren't pushed even once to "join". Free net in the lobby. Excellent value, we will definitiely come again.

My traveling companions & I asked jokingly "Do they feed the hotel workers happy pills?" They were great. We stayed in a room with a king bed & a pull out couch - it was HUGE ... bigger then my friends studio that lives in the city! Great staff! Great Location! Loved it!

The location of the Donatello Hotel is ideal for those who need a hotel within walking distance to Union Square and the all important shops. Our rooms was large, bright and very clean with a microwave, coffee maker, cups, bowls and cutlery but the continential breakfast was adequate so we never felt the need to utilise these facillities. The staff were very helpful and polite Location is excellent but I would recommend bringing ear plugs as for some reason the fire engines put their sirens on even when it is 3am in the morning and there is no traffic!!
