A short guide to: Union Square - Convention Center

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman’s Wharf.

Great for our family

We were looking for a value hotel in downtown San Francisco for my husband and myself and 3 teenagers. We were able to get 3 adjoining rooms with just the right number of beds at an affordable price. The hotel is just up from the cable car turnaround - lots of activity on the street. The lobby contains a Mexican grill (which also served breakfast) which fed our teenagers several times. Next door is a Walgreen's and across the street is a Starbuck's - everything you need is right there. Did I mention that the BART station is also right at the corner and there are Muni stops close by. The desk clerk was friendly and helpful. The shower was excellent and they had good towels. It is not a luxury hotel, but we were not expecting one.

Clean & Comfortable but loud

We ended up with a room on the 6th floor facing Powell St and it was pretty noisy. Just city street noise - garbage trucks, drunk people singing and such. If you're a light sleeper you'd probably be in trouble. If you're on the back its probably fine, and its very conveniently located

This spartan hotel was just the ticket.

This spartan hotel, decorated in vintage Ikea, has a perfect location and price. If you don't mind roughing it a little bit, you just might love it the way we did.

Overall a good plate to stay.

Nice and clean. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Water pressure in the shower was weak. There was the a good deal of noise late into the night but that's part of being near Union Square.

Central to everything SF has to offer

I booked the suite for my family visiting for the 4th of July holiday weekend and was able to get a great rate just a few days in advance. The hotel is located right in the heart of Union Sq, which translates into noise but is outweighed by the incredible access my family had to the shops and sights they were interested in seeing. The rooms were very clean and bright, though a bit stuffy so we left the windows open during the day (at night it was too noisy to do that). We asked for a quiet room and considering their location they did the best they could. We couldn't always get someone on the front desk phone (they only had one person at the desk) but when we were able to, they were prompt and helpful in fulfilling our requests. Recommended for those interesting in the cable cars and shopping.
