I used to work in the hotel industry outfitting business, and I can tell you with authority that the furnishings of the hotel are very-well done, which creates a nice atmosphere of comfort and higher standards. The room was rather small, but otherwise, for a short business trip, everything was adequate for my needs.

The room was small, as I expected, but very clean. The wifi hookup worked fine, and I was able to get a lot of work done while listening to the cable cars clanging outside. The view stank -- a rooftop -- but there was plenty to see outdoors. The BART took me right to the hotel, and there was tons of public transport nearby.

This hotel location is ideal. Especially if you are taking BART from the airport. The front door of the hotel is literally steps from the Powell Street BART station. Also, the location is ideal for being in the heart of the city. The price I got on Expedia was not that cheap. I was willing to pay more for location. However, with that said...the first room I got was smaller than my master bedroom closet. I had requested a room on the Powell Street side 2 weeks in advance and they said they could not honor that request. After one night I asked about a larger room on Powell street and the change was made pleasantly and professionally.

The Powell Hotel offered a taste of old San Francisco which was very charming. The rooms were comfortable; however, they could have used some updates. The carpeting was a bit dated and had many stains. The television was a small 20 inch television, for a double queen room. The walls appeared to be painted over and over. The noise was not as bad as you may expect, being right next to the cable car turnaround. I loved the fact that there was a coffee shop inside of the hotel. If you are looking for a place to merely lay your head at night amidst all the activity of San Francisco - this is the place to be. I would definitely stay here again.

The service is excellent. Great location. Shopping and restaurant. The street noise didn't bother a bit. It met our expectations. I have a training near the airport but I chose to stay in the city. The location is great. The front desk personnel(David, Jun and Rene)are very helpful.Everything is within walking distance. I will come back and will recommend.

Lovely hotel, rooms a little small but so well located for the cable car, trams etc and the whole Union Square shopping and dining experience. San Fran is fab and this hotel is a great place to stay if you're in town.

This hotel is located right in the heart of the city, right next to the Powell St cable car stop, and next door to the BART station which is handy for getting around the city. Hotel itself is a bit tired and aged, but has been well modernised with flat screen TV and very comfortable beds. Would definitely recommend due to unbeatable location and helpful staff

The Powell Hotel location has good points and bad. You can't beat it for it's location to everything including the Bart to and from the airport. But on the other hand, if your room faces the cable car turn around expect a lot of street noise. I had read other reviews so kind of knew what I was in for, so don't get a room facing the street if you want peace and quiet. All of the people at the front desk were extremely helpful and eager to help. For a hotel of it's agem everything was clean and well maintained. The only thing I wish The Powell had and didn't would be a restaurant and bar, but there are plenty close by.
