Max's and Maxwell Hotel was much nicer. The location is great for the Touchstone but they need some chain like Best Western to take it over and clean it up!

The hotel is small but in a good location. The rooms are very small but were clean. Unfortunately our room only had empty hooks where the blowdryer and iron used to be. Out of the 3 lights in the room, only 1 had a light bulb. We had a window but it faced the inside concrete wall and another room, you had to keep the curtains closed. We were 2 people so we got 2 towels and 2 bars of soap. All in all not a bad stay as the staff is very polite, the rooms are clean adn the restaurant downstairs is excellent. If you are just looking for somewhere to sleep and nothing more I would recommend a short stay.

nice location, small but clean and a good place to sleep. Very small TV and no pay movies. no staff on after 8:30 on week nights or 10:00 on weekends and you have to pay $30 a day to valet your car you can bring it in and out but have to be back before the desk clerk leaves which as i said can be pretty early. But all in all good location and easy to public transport

SF's nightlife isn't New York or Vegas, but the Union Sq area is still alive late at night, which we liked since we ended up walking to our hotel after partying in the Castro district.

It's located at the center of the city, what makes it very convinient because it's easy to get to all sightseeing, restaurants and so on. Service, comfort and cleanliness of the room is fine.

There is a GREAT coffee shop in the Tenderloin..."Dotties True Blue Cafe"...five blocks from Union Square...at 522 Jones St. They have the BEST breakfasts in town, and LOW prices & ample portions Allow 30 minutes wait to be seated...it's extremely popular!

A few blocks away from Union Sq. seems to offer better hotels in the same/better price range. We ate a big, and tasty, breakfast at Max's a block away that kept us going most of the day.
