Westin St. Francis Union Square

Nice location for an old hotel. The rooms are quite small. The beds were nice when new, but in my home i have the same bed that Westin calls the Heavenly, and it the hotel one is clearly worn in. The towels for the bathroom are old, and rough, from too many washes and high heat drying. The bath towel is also not much larger than the hand towels. The hotel, like all upscale hotels nickels and dimes you for everything including $12/day for use of the gym. I didn't think the hotel had much character past the exterior and some trim work in the rooms and hallways. The staff are extremely nice and the service is impeccable. However, having lived in San Francisco, we only used the hotel as a place to sleep and a base to jump from. For the money, it's a bit expensive for what you get, but you are paying for location too. It's a fine hotel if you are used to staying in lower end hotels, but doesn't compare to the newness of a Crowne Plaza or say the Omni. And it's no where near the Mandarin Orientals or Intercontinental out there. Then again, I was also disappointed with the Renaissance Hotel Kowloon in Hong Kong last month.

Perfect Location

This hotel is perfectly located for anyone wishing to explore San Francisco, as it is right on Union Square and very close to all transport connections. The rooms are well appointed and have magnificent King sized beds. The staff were effortlessly helpful.

Great location

Across Union Square from the Weston is a wonderful eatery called Mocha, situated in a cobble stone alley way. It is cash only. The coffee is great and their food is wonderful. You order from a counter, pay, and seat yourself. Another place to enjoy coffee and a pastry is the eatery located on Union Square itself. Not sure of the name, but great food and a place to enjoy people watching.

Road trip to SF

This was an excellent hotel although when traveling with children I would not recommend. Fishermans Warf would be the ideal location.

Centrally Located Hotel

Great location however, room was small. But, when in San Fran, you're better off out enjoying the great city! One quirky issue was that the hotel phones did not work well. Room to room calls went through however, they also gave a bussy tone when you speaking. The hotel was reluctant to address the issue after several calls to the front desk.

What a great hotel

If you find that the cable cars are too busly and don't mind walking, walk a couple blocks over to Grant Street - it's not as hilly. It takes you through the heart of Chinatown too!

Hotel was great

Obvious choices China town, Fisherman's Wharf, GG Bridge. Some others - Golden Gate Park. Its a bus ride away from the bridge but worth the ride. - Castro and Market area. Even if you are not gay, this is a neat section of town.

Great hotel on Union Square,

Parking is a bit expensive but the valet service is worth it. Off site parking is a bit cheaper. Either way park your vehicle and use mass transit or taxis. Most places no more than a ten dollar cab ride away(including tip.
