Description

Location. Villa Lutèce Port Royal is located in the progressive Place d'Italie district in Paris, France. This hotel stands on the Left Bank in the midst of Paris' prestigious universities.
Hotel Features. This hotel's décor reflects a literary theme out of respect for nearby intellectual institutions and the Bibliothèque François Mitterand. Vibrant shades of violet and rose harmonize with modern furniture pieces. Complimentary weekday newspapers are distributed in the lobby Lounge. Buffet-style breakfasts are served daily in the dining salon. A computer with Internet access is available in the lobby with a pre-paid card issued at the 24-hour reception desk. Wireless Internet access is also available. The hotel offers concierge services.

Guestrooms. Villa Lutèce Port Royal offers 36 guestrooms decorated in neutral tones with dark wooden furnishings. Accommodations include in-room safes. Private bathrooms feature modern fixtures, bathrobes, telephones and heated towel racks. Soundproofed windows overlook an inner courtyard or the city streets. Rooms include cable television. Minibars are provided. Duplex Suites feature split-level design with sitting areas located on the lower level. Suites include bathrooms with double sinks, separate showers, bathtubs and downstairs toilets.

Expert Tip. Located 800 metres from the hotel, Rue Moufftard is one of Paris' oldest streets. During morning hours, the lower half of the street is the scene of a lively open market. By night, the market disappears, and a multitude of little restaurants open, offering cuisine that ranges from Greek to Argentine.

A lovely hotel

I've stayed in Paris hotels before and always found the rooms a bit substandard for the price paid. But our room at the Villa Lutece Port Royal was spectacular. My husband, 7 year old stepdaughter and I stayed in one of the triple duplex rooms. The room had a loft with a king sized bed and it's own toilet. Downstairs was a living room with a very large sleeper sofa, a second toilet and a jacuzzi tub/shower room. This gave us lots of space and we could put my stepdaughter to bed in the loft and not disturb her while we stayed up later. We slept on the sleeper sofa and found it was as comfortable as any bed. The room was very quiet, overlooking a courtyard. I believe the hotel has been recently remodeled. Our room was done to a very high standard with modern furniture, a mini bar, nice tv and loads of storage space. There was no free wi-fi though. You can buy access to Orange broadband if you want to get online. The hotel is a bit outside of the main tourist areas, but this was preferable to us and there is a metro stop within 100 metres of the hotel making it easy to get around. Our only complaint is a very minor one. My stepdaughter wanted to have a bubbly jacuzzi and we couldn't get the bubbles working. The man on the reception desk couldn't leave his post to come look at it until it was too much after bedtime, so she had to settle for a plain bubblebath instead. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Paris.

Boutique hotel with a lot to offer

The hotel may not not be in the very centre of Paris, but its location is very convenient for access to the metro, restaurants and bars. It's on a direct line from the Gare du Nord - a real bonus for Eurostar travellers! The splendid Jardin des Plantes together with the Left Bank of the Seine are within easy walking distance. The hotel's distinctive literary theme which dominates the decor provides an unusual ambience. The bedroom, although not spacious, was very well equipped with cupboard space, an excellent TV with good choice of channels and an amply resourced bathroom. It was a pity that the breakfast was so over-priced that we were obliged to find an alternative venue. Overall the hotel was good value for money.

Happy Overall

It is hard to know what to write when reviewing an hotel, yet all i can really go on is my own experiences. The looks of the hotel were highly impressive, finished to a very high standard. The rooms look like the photos, yet my one point to make is that ours was not as big as we'd guessed from the photo. When two people were dressing in the morning we were endlessly in each others path. Other than that i have no complaints about the hotel at all. The location of the hotel is outside of the central areas of Paris, in the Latin Quarter of the city. This translates that if you want to go to the tourist attractions or the better areas to eat you need a taxi or the metro system. Asking the staff at the hotel about catching the metro the one piece of advice we got was "you have to buy a ticket, yes." Not much help. Luckily we had a guide book advising us to buy Tourist Travel Tickets, which we did and found extremely good value for our trip.

I would return to hotel

I would reccomend this hotel. 2 compliants. 1- The guy at the front desk when we checked in late was not very helpful, rude (I speak French as well). 2 We requested a taxi to meet us at the hotel and the taxi never showed. Not sure if you can balme the hotel or the taxi.

Not as promised

The hotel was nothing like it appeared in the photos. The room was not particularly clean with a very dirty headboard. It was aslo very small. We were supposed to have complimentary dressing gowns but these were not available. This hotel is more of a very low three star than a four star. Very dissapointing.
