Ask the front desk person for local restaurant recommendations, they can point you to some really superb eateries!

Cross over the River Tiber from the hotel - 200meters away - and you are into Trastevere. a most interesting historic area full of very good places to eat. Avoid the obvious tourist ones and some excellent food and service awaits you.

Worth getting a bus to the Vatican. (Get an audio guide to steer you around the Museum) Its about a 45 minute walk from the hotel. Buy a day pass which you can use on all the buses. Hotel will tell you all about buses if that's how you want to get about. They also advertise the tour buses which stop right outside the hotel and you can if money is no object hire a private guide.

We got up early the day after our arrival and went to St. Peter's when there was no line and had our ticket for the Vatican reserved online. This was not a tour, but they took you into the Vatican and thereby did not have to wait in line. Definitely reserve a ticket online or you will wait 3-4 hours in a line instead of walking in in 5 minutes.

We had a double deluxe room. The décor was modern, and elegantly minimalist with honey colored tones. While not overly spacious, it was quite comfortable. There was a flat screen TV, with on-demand music and movies, and a wired Internet connection. The bathroom was large, but had only a shower with a large rain shower heads. There was an average sized closet and a safe. The pubic spaces are clean and equally modern and minimalist. The English-speaking desk staff was efficient and the concierge was extremely friendly and helpful. There is a small breakfast room that leads out on to a bright courtyard with 7-8 tables. There is also an interior sitting room/lounge. In addition there is a small lobby bar. Do check out the roof top bar. Its a great place to enjoy the Roman sunset with a glass of wine. The food at the rooftop restaurant was quite good as well. We were quite happy with the hotel itself. The location however is a bit of a drawback. While it sits in the middle of Romes historic district very close to the Coliseum Roman Forum and many other ancient sites it is in my estimation a half to three-quarters of a mile off the beaten path. The bustling restaurant and sidewalk cafe scene for which Rome is known is a good 15-20 minute walk away. The only other negative of note is the noise. Our room faced the front of the hotel and a rather busy thoroughfare.

Loads of places to eat out for good prices just across the river in Trastevere. Can buy bus tickets for 1 euro at the hotel front desk- handy for getting to the Vatican etc. Would definitely recommend getting the hotel to organise a car to pick you up from the airport- a little pricey but takes all the stress out of getting to the hotel and you get a good look at the sites on the way.

Nothing aggravates more when being out of your home turf than reaching for a phone directory and not finding one. There was NOT one directory in the entire hotel, at the front desk they insisted that they no longer provided them, that they would find any address for me on the internet... say what?!! I wanted to see the selection of restaurants in the area, or groceries, or theaters, or whatever!! Also charging a $10 daily rate for the use of internet is insulting. The food at their rooftop restaurant was not only mediocre but too expensive for its quality.

We were really please to stay in the Fortyseven Hotel in Rome. The staff were always very friendly and helpful, they were happy to make reservations and follow up calls in Restaurants for us as well as order taxis. Location was great. Out of the way of the crowds and noise, but in easy walking distance of all the attractions. The room was modern and comfortable, with a big 6ft bed. Breakfast was really good considering it was a help yourself buffet - a varied and excellent selection of breads, pastries, fruit, cereals and cold meats. There was a nice roof terrace bar and a restaurant, but was a bit pricey for what we got (although that was normal through out Rome) It was my boyfriends 30th Birthday, and although they weren't told they surprised him with a cake delivered to our room. Which was a nice touch. Overall a very enjoyable stay, and would definitely return to this hotel again.
