Description

Location. The ultra-modern Hotel Ripa is located in the picturesque Trastevere district of Rome, Italy, within two kilometres of the Coliseum and two-and-a-half kilometres from Vatican City.
Hotel Features. Hotel Ripa is a contemporary building in concrete and glass, standing in contrast to the city's classical style. The lobby has wooden and marble floors, 1970s-style armchairs, grey partition walls and young staff all dressed in black. Multilingual concierge staff can give tour assistance.

The hotel offers a complimentary buffet breakfast. Ripa Art Café is a chic dining room with wooden floors, modern black furnishings, contemporary art, and paper lampshades. It serves innovative Mediterranean dishes, with jazz and blues playing in the background. The hotel has a nightclub, decorated in steel and fibreglass, with DJs, various theme nights and animated projections on the white, minimalist walls.

The Hotel Ripa has five meeting rooms, conferences rooms, exhibition space, and business services available. There is dial-up Internet access in public areas (surcharge).

The hotel has a mini-gym with personal trainer, and massages can be arranged.

Guestrooms. Hotel Ripa's 170 air- conditioned guestrooms are decorated in a minimalist style with splashes of colour and black, charcoal and white furnishings. All rooms have dial- up Internet connections (surcharge), satellite television, safes and minibars.

Expert Tip. Porta Portese flea market, located just outside the hotel, sells a mix of antiques and bric-a-brac. It starts about 6.30 a.m. and closes around 2 p.m., and is famous for appearing in Vittorio di Saca's classic 1948 Italian film 'The Bicycle Thief'.

What a misrepresentation

I must start this review by saying how much I was looking forward to staying in this hotel. I am well travelled and I thought it would be great to stay in the hotel with the edge. The hotel is not central and I knew it - so I can't fault it on that. However you would have difficulty recognising this hotel as it was hidden away from the view amongst other residential buildings in a run down area of Trastevere. The upgraded room I was given on 8th floor was very poorly maintained (the piece of plastering fell out in the bathroom, the walls were scratched). There is also a major construction going on right in front of the hotel which starts at 0700 am - nice wake up call for the guests. Reception staff in the hotel is rude (when I called to get direction to the airport the man just put me on hold in the middle of the conversation and transferred to another colleague just because he became busy). This is supposed to be a 4 start hotel

Unfriendly staff and rooms in poor quality

Really unfriendly staff at check-in. We were given a room, but there were a few problems with the room. (Unclean bathroom, shower handle was broken, smoke detector was covered by plastic film, no fire escape instructions & air conditioning was leaking water in the room - the carpet was actually wet) We then asked for another room - and were given one.

Extremely good Location in Rome

Forget what people say about the outside of the hotel, it may look like a rundown building but whats underneath is what counts. As you walk in your presented with an art deco type entrance. The service area members spoke english which was great. Breakfast included is a must they really do supply you with good grub. The room oh there's a delight we found to have a hidden kitchen and sitting area.
