Overview

Location.

Set in a corner building with a neo- classical columned façade, the chic Art Deco-influenced Banks Mansion Hotel opened in 2004 and overlooks the Herengracht canal, one kilometre south of Amsterdam's Centraal Station. The nearest airport is Amsterdam Schiphol Aurport, 20 kilometres from the hotel.

Hotel Features.

Adjacent to a typical Amsterdam canal bridge, guests enter this previous bank building through a corner entrance. Inside, the sophisticated 1920s-style lobby features leaded stained glass, rich wood panelling, and Art Deco motifs. Clusters of wood-framed armchairs and sofas accommodate a mixture of weekday business and weekend leisure guests, who relax by the fireplace while the enjoying canal views. Those needing to catch up with work can make us of the complimentary Internet corner with two PCs; wireless Internet is available throughout the hotel.

Guests of the Banks Mansion can start their morning tucking into breakfast in The Kitchen, offering a hot and cold buffet and open kitchen area in home-style surroundings. During the day visitors lounge in the lobby area taking advantage of an unlimited buffet of drinks and snacks.

Two popular forms of recreation and ways to explore Amsterdam are cycling and boating, both of which can be found a block from the hotel.

Guestrooms.

Spread across four floors, the Banks Mansion Hotel's 51 guestrooms are characterised by a blend of Amsterdam School, Berlage, and Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired design. Work areas comprise desks with leather swivel chairs and high-speed Internet ports, while flatscreen televisions include satellite channels, complimentary in-house movies, surround-sound speakers, and CD and DVD players.

Expert Tip.

Visitors keen to experience the real Old Amsterdam should head over the bridge towards Prinsengracht. Most of the canal houses on this stretch were built during the Dutch Golden Age, characterised by charming narrow streets, slender canals, and many fine examples of 17th-century architecture.

    Banks Mansion Canal Loop

A short guide to Canal Loop

The classic Amsterdam image of stately canals, the Canal Loop is principally the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, lined with gracious tall 17th and 18th-century houses. Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic much–photographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The floating Flower Market is also a much-loved canal feature.

"Definately not a boutique hotel experience"  by N from London

ALthough I can' fault Banks Mansion for the service or clealiness I must admit I was very underwelmed by the whole experience. We were away for my husbands birthday and I had spent a long time trying to find an intimate boutique hotel with a great location. From the description I thought Banks Mansion would fit the bill perfectly, however the experience was like any other bland hotel experience, just with less rooms and free drinks in the'living room' (actually the lobby!) Our room barely had a window and looked out over a wall, the bathroom was massive and very well appointed but the room fel cramped and dark.

"Stylish oasis"  by R from Stratford on Avon

Amsterdam is full of hotels but nothing else is as stylish as Banks Mansion. Situated just around the corner from Rembrandt Square, this small, boutique hotel is a haven of stylish calm. The rooms are not huge but are beautifully furnished with fabrics and furniture that has been thoughtfully selected to complement unusual retro touches such as the mirrors and wall clock. The bathromm, while compact, was spotlessly clean, beautifully styled and offered a n excellent, drenching shower withoptional steam and eucalyptus oil. Drinks in the room, in the mini bar and in the tiny foyer lounge are all free of charge, a nice touch to make you feel at home. All in all, an excellent choice and while Amsterdam seeths and surges outside the windows,Banks Mansion is a haven of charming service and peaceful relaxation.

"Will use this hotel again"  by M from United States

The staff was extremely nice, the rooms were very comfortable, and the location of the hotel made walking the city and getting to the train station very easy, and the free breakfast was GREAT! The complimentary bar, snacks and internet were a nice addition. Would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay at this hotel again if ever in Amsterdam.

"Awesome city hotel staff"  by V from London

I could not have asked for a more helpful bunch of people who work at the hotel, are very freindly and very professional. The hotel itself is quite central with easy access to various parts of the city...whether the redlight district or the museums or bars and clubs.
