Hotel Features. The hotel occupies a four- storey building, built in 1911 in typical Amsterdam style. The smart tiled lobby features complimentary newspapers and flight-departure screens.

The Hotel Amsterdam is famous for its De Roode Leeuw Restaurant, a historic, wood-beamed eatery, decorated in traditional style with Dutch antiques. It serves regional cuisine from all over Holland, French specialities and wild game in the winter. There's a complimentary welcome cocktail for hotel guests. De Roode Leeuw Restaurant also serves light meals, pastries and drinks in an enclosed terrace, overlooking the busy street. The hotel offers 24-hour room service.

good central location but tiny rooms

The hotel is well placed for Dam Square and all the major sights, but is basically just somewhere to rest your head. Not many amenities, and no bar as such, although you can drink in the restaurant (which closes at 11PM each night). The rooms are very small, but clean and tidy, with very comfortable beds. The bathroom is meant to be an ultra modern wet room, but lack of a decent drain means the bathroom floods if you have a shower! The staff were excellent, and very friendly/helpful. On the whole, recommended if you don't want to spend too much time in your hotel room.

Good but small

I stayed there for 1 night only. The room was single room, but even so, the room was extremely small - hardly enough room to open my suitcase by the side of the bed. Bathroom was a very strange full on wetroom, where the water seemed as if it was going to spill into the bedroom (but thankfully did not). The staff was really nice, including the night staff when I came back late in the evening. Breakfast was adequate, but very expensive. Didn't try the dinner there. Overall, a good clean hotel with excellent service, located 30 paces from the Dam square, but wish the room was bigger.
