Description

The Hotel Arena in Amsterdam is a modern property occupying a former late 19th century orphanage set within the laid-back Oosterpark district, one kilometre from the central train station. The 127 guestrooms feature minimalist décor with stark white walls, wooden floors, and modern furniture. All include televisions with pay movies, Internet connections (fee), and telephones.
Bold tones and imaginative lighting set the tone in the bar at the Arena, where guests can enjoy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, as well as drinks throughout the day. The work of renowned Dutch designer Ronald Hoofdh is evident in the modern restaurant, which serves Dutch specialties and international dishes. When the weather is warm in Amsterdam, a terrace is open for al fresco dining.

A Comfortable Hotel

My partner and I spent two nights at the hotel on a city break to Amsterdam. The hotel staff were very friendly and although the room was small and basic it was clean and comfortable. The hotel was in a lovely, quiet area. The only problem we found was that it wasn't easy to get back to the hotel late at night as the last metro was not very late.

cheap and cheerful!

The hotel was clean and reasonably priced. It was suitable for a weekend visit as it was close to a lot of the citys hotspots. The staff were very friendly on arrival. My only negatve point really is about the rooms. As much as the 'modern, minimalist look' looks great it wasn't comfortable and there was no comfy seats to be able to watch t.v.

Great Place To Stay

Ignore the bad reviews. The hotel looks graet and is well located, only a 5min tram ride to the centre of town with the tram stop a 2min walk away. Check in was quick and simple, we were too early so they gave us a locker for our bags and suggested were to go in town. Staff were friendly and helpful and sorted out everything we needed. Room was basic, but clean and comfortable, some people my want to upgrade. Overall a great place to stay.

Stylish and Funky

Nice Hotel, friendly staff. Room was a bit cramped, lacking in space for storage. Was undergoing refurbishement, so I'm convinced it will be good. There was an additional Amsterdam Tourist Tax wihc we were charged upon leaving in addition to the room bill (which was fully pre-payed, so be aware of this).

Quality Hotel for Students On A Budget!

The hotelier & staff were welcoming and the hotel itself was inviting and friendly. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves as the hotel is quiet near to Centrall and tram links ideal for first timers. I would definitely recommend the Deluxe suite!

nice place but this is definitely a HOSTEL

i stayed at this place because it seemed like a good value place...and it was! however, this is clearly NOT a hotel by any standard. i have travelled to various places in europe and this is clearly a hostel with a nice lobby. the staff was very friendly and helpful but the room was extremely extremely extremely small.

Worst room in nearly 50 years of travelling

Allocated room 203 on check-in. This proved to be the worst hotel room I have been allocated in nearly 50 years international travel. It was no more than a minute attic room with sloping outer wall/ceiling. There was one Velux window that could only be opened a few centimetres and the radiator valve was faulty so the heat could not be turned off. Furniture consisted of one chair, a desk, bedside table and a double industrial cloakroom steel locker! There was no way my wife and I were going to accept this room but it was too late to find another Hotel with car parking. We had to pay a suppliment of ?20/ night to get an acceptable alternative on the next floor down. 3 days car parking cost ?75. Totally unacceptable.

A very long walk from the centre

Not at all central, we paid for a delux room and it was very basic it just meant that you did not have to check out until 2pm. There was not a fridge or kettle. Very clean but very clinical not very practical if you are wanting to be within all the excitement of Amsterdam. Great if you have children as it is in a nice location and hotel has entertainment on site also very near the zoo and parks.
