Description

Location. The Affinia Manhattan offers residential-style accommodations diagonally across the street from Madison Square Gardens and Penn Station in New York City, N.Y.
Features. The Affinia Manhattan's lobby is distinguished by high molded ceilings, crystal chandeliers, terrazzo floors and an octagonal two-person concierge desk ringed with black-and-white photographic scenes of New York City. The modernistic Niles restaurant operates adjacent to the lobby and features flat-panel televisions and original artwork. The lounge offers a bar menu while the restaurant features a global menu. A 24-hour business center includes four computer stations with high-speed Internet access. Nine function rooms accommodate events. Wireless Internet access is available in public areas, for a fee. A 24-hour, complimentary fitness center offers window-lit ambience, cardiovascular machines, weight machines and free weights.

Guestrooms. The 28-story Affinia Manhattan offers 526 guestrooms and suites featuring custom-made beds with pillowtop mattresses, 280-thread count linens, down comforters, and small, stuffed gorillas reminiscent of King Kong. Benjamin West desks offer spacious surfaces and task lights, while ergonomic chairs provide padded comfort. Additional room amenities include complimentary, laptop-compatible safes, and upholstered armchairs with ottomans. Bathrooms feature shower/tubs or stall showers only, and Aveda toiletries. All accommodations feature full kitchens. High-speed Internet wired Internet access is available, for a fee.

Expert's Tip. Restaurant dining in New York City can prove a bit pricey. A great way to avoid the restaurant routine is to take advantage of the Affinia Manhattan's guest-suite kitchens. Gourmet ready-to-cook-items can be purchased four blocks north of the property in the deli at Macy's department store. You can also take advantage of a deli-style grocery located two doors away.

Please Note: A daily valet parking fee will be collected at check-in. Parking does not include in/out privileges per 24-hour period. Parking fees are determined by the hotel and are subject to change.

Great hotel & location

Most resturants close at 10pm, so you can not get seated after 9.30pm. It sounds late but on a hot summer day you will not eat early. Also take the Red bus sight seeing tour, full of great information

Good value for money

The journey to and from JFK can take forever on the shuttle bus due to numerous drop-offs and traffic. Consider spending a few dollars more (but this depends on how many in the party) on flat fare cabs or hotel limo which can be had for a decent price if you ask the front doorman.

We really enjoyed our stay

If you are not familiar with Penn Station, it can be very frustrating! We found it much less stressful to walk one block and use a "regular" subway entrance, rather than wandering around the vast area that is Penn Station. The subways are very safe, and if you are not sure which train to take, just ask a local, they are happy to help!

Can't wait to go back

The hotel was great, great location, staff very friendly. My one and only complaint would be the shower was very small, that's it. Otherwise the hotel was awesome, would stay there again.

Great N.Y. hotel

I booked this hotel for friends visiting from Ireland. I had stayed here may years ago when it was called Southgate Hotel & liked it. They told me they had a beautiful, clean room and service was great. They simply said everyone was so nice to them. They also said the location was great (across from Madison Square Garden).

Great value

This hotel was excellent value and very close to Times Square. We were three friends sharing a one bedroom suite. One friend was able to use the sofa bed and other two shared the king size bed. The hotel provided a rollaway bed but we didn't use it. There were two full bathrooms. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in thick of things and wants great value.

Good value for the money

There's a great Risotto bar in Greenwich Village called Risotteria, good food and excellent prices. Great pizza at John's Pizzeria also in Greenwich Village. And if you like French, a nice patio restaurant called Maison just north of Times Square had great service, delicious food and good wine. Also nice to eat on a patio instead of an air conditioned restaurant especially when the evening is still in the 80s.
