Lovely hotel located on 42nd Street just steps away from Grand Central St. I found the hotel to be very clean, the staff to be friendly and the king bed to be extremely comfortable! Only small thing I would complain about is the mini bar. If you take an item of for more than 20 seconds you pay for it - regardless of whether you put it back or not? I never use a mini bar anyway so it did not affect ne, however I did have a nosey and lifted something for no more than 5 seconds ( a quick pick up and down) and when I went to check out they asked me how I wanted to pay my extra charges??? In there defense I mentioned I hadn’t used the mini bar and there was no problem – I would reccommmend this hotel and would stay again.

we,four, stayed here for five nights. We wanted to sight see and shop, the location was great, we could walk to a lot of places.The staff were very helpful. The concierge advised us on locations and made appointments for us. We would love to return to this hotel.

Must say my wife and i had a very pleasant stay in your hotel we stayed for a week and in all that time i must say the staff were very pleasant towards us and also very helpful with any requests we had. I would have no hesitation in choosing this hotel next time we visit New York, see you all sometime.

Just back from a most enjoyable 6 night stay in the Helmsley. We had a really nice, spacious room on the corner with a view of the Empire State Building and the streets outside. The hotel is under 5mins walking distance from Grand Central station so you can go anywhere from there or you can walk to town either as it's not too far from the main attractions. We chose a room only option and went to either Pax next door or the Comfort Diner on 45th St for breakfast. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Free wireless internet was an excellent feature as we were able to research places to go from the comfort of our room and save on money too. Overall I'd have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in New York.

We chose this hotel primarily on location. We were however pleasantly suprised. The rooms were clean, tidy and well presented, although a little dated, nothing wrong in that though. Staff were pleasant and helpful throughout our stay, even getting the door for us when we had been out to buy our morning coffees from Starbucks! The location however is spot on. We were first time visitors to the big apple so were unsure of locations other than from maps. There are lots of things to do within walking distance and because it is 2 blocks from Grand Central all the main links subway and buses are great. Got the express bus inand out from Newark airport to 41st and 2nd for around $25 per person round trip! All in all a great base for visiting New York, as everyone says you will not spend much time in the hotel anyway!

The hotel was very clean, service good and in a great location for exploring Manhattan on foot or by subway. Nearest Subway is Grand Central Station which is about 200 yards away. The only complaint is the noise, all night from the rear of the hotel, a combination of traffic and bin men, who seemed to work constant nightshift for the 5 days we were there!

I was on a research trip to NY and stayed at the Helmsley on 42nd st, very close to the NY Public Library and subway to anywhere I had to go. The room was large, bed comfortable, shower lovely, staff friendly. I needed peace and quiet to write up my notes, which I got. I didn't eat in the hotel but there is a cafe almost next door and an all night pharmacy where I got my films developed. Prices had been reduced and this was my cheapest stay in NY to date.

We stayed here for 5 nights in Dec 2007 and spent new years eve in Times Square. The location of the hotel is perfect, its about a 10-15 min walk to times sqaure and lots of shops and restaurants in the way. we had breakfast in PAX everyday which is just next door, great value and excellent food !! we got upgraded to a higher room on arrival, and the view was excellent from our hotel room. The staff at the hotel are all very friendly, and the hotel has a nice little bar to relax in if you dont fancy going out in the cold in the evenings... overall we would definately go again as the location was perfect, rooms were very clean and the bathroom was nice to : )
