Riingo - This handsome, two-level restaurant serves innovative American-Japanese cuisine. (“Riingo” is derived from the Japanese word for apple.) Menu highlights include Whole Snapper with Red Miso Broth, Seared Char with Herb Coconut Milk, and, for dessert, Donuts with Green Tea Kulfi (Indian ice cream).
The main level includes a curved-front lounge—where the signature drink is the Red Apple Martini—a 40-seat dining room, and a sushi bar. A semi-private “bento booth” is appointed with ebony wood and kimono-inspired fabrics. A Carrara marble stairway leads to a mezzanine with a community table overlooking the main dining room and more intimate booths overlooking the lounge.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily; brunch on weekends. Sidewalk seating is available seasonally.
The hotel’s 24-hour fitness center, staffed during peak hours, provides resistance-training and cardio equipment, along with free weights. Each cardio machine has its own flat-screen TV monitor/DVD player. Personal training is available for a fee.
New York's Central Park, about a mile away, offers walking, biking, and running paths; in-line and ice-skating; boat and bike rentals; birding; and a host of other recreational diversions in a verdant setting of woodlands, waterways, gardens, meadows, and ravines.
The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

see all hotels in Midtown"New-York's gem of a hotel"by J from Dublin
In comparison with my stay in Night hotel a year ago I found the staff in The Alex hotel to be the friendliest and most courtious. The room was immaculate and so comfortable, with a great view of the Chryslar from the floor to ceiling window. It was like staying in an apartment for a week!If we had any queries the staff were more than helpful which makes a difference when you're away from home and looking for advice.I will definitely stay in The Alex again.
"Fantastic and well located hotel"by A from London
The Alex exceeded our expectations. Without exception the staff were friendly and the hotel manages to be stylish without being intimidating. I've stayed in several W hotels and found them to be more style over substance (for instance, whilst the communal areas are great, the bathrooms, air con etc can be rubbish). The Alex was immaculate. We had requested a view of the Chrysler and they upgraded us to an immaculate junior suite with a stunning view. Mid town is a great location if you want to be in walking distance of MoMa, Empire State, 5th Avenue but only a short cab ride away from Soho and the Meatpacking district.

"We will return"by J from London
Hotel was modern. All staff were attentive and very helpful and pleasant. Concierge was very knowledgable and made good recommendations.
"Bad Service at check in"by G from Ireland
Be aware if you are arriving after a long and tiring flight that this hotel operates a strictly enorced 4pm (yes, 4pm) check in. On arrival I asked for a room or an area that I could freshen up and repack my bag as I did not want to carry heavy hand luggage around the city whilst waiting for my room. I was shown to the toilet of the restaurant which had no surface upon which to place a bag. It was auggested to me that I could put my bag on the toilet floor and reorganise it there. Nice. I eventually asked them if they had a gym area that I could use and they eventually showed me up there. However the attitude of the doorman was by this point verging on the aggresive. He simply could not understand why I didn't wish to empty the contents of my suitcase all over the toilet floor. The main drawbacks of this hotel are the attitude if the staff and the tiny/ non existent lobby (ie nowhere to relax whilst waiting for your 4pm check in). The rooms are actually OK when you are eventually allowed to get access to them
"Great Hotel"by S from Liverpool
Could not fault the hotel. Not cheap, but then where is in NYC? I would certainly consider going back to this hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. I could see the top of Chrysler Building (two blocks away I think) from our room. The room was a little small (typical of NY I guess), but very well appointed.
"The best NY hotel i've stayed in"by S from London
I just loved this hotel. The greeting at reception was warm and personal. check in was speedy. The room was huge, well decorated and the bed was extremely comfortable. I am a frequent visitor to NYC and will now not stay anywhere else.
