The staff was nice. The room was quiet, but lacked true black out curtains, so it was a bit light and a bit small as well. The breakfast is good, but set up at a restaraunt accross the mall entry. There is coffee available in the lobby for a fee. They have a lounge in the lobby as well, but the desk staff service it. They were nice, but had very limited mixology skills. One of our blankets had a stain on it when we checked in and was never replaced. There is a large costruction project currently taking place in front of the hotel which made access a bit rough looking. The location was convenient, but the area right outside the hotel is a bit dodgy. It was an easy access for transportation, but a bit away from the sights and more scenic areas of town. I had a sense that the colorful crowd outside the train station is permanent, but I would like to go back and see what the area looks like after construction is complete.

Take advantage of the free breakfast buffet at the Scandic Byporten Hotel by loading up on second and third helpings of food each morning. Then skip lunch while sightseeing during the day. Lunch at Oslo restaurants tends to be extremely expensive (U.S. $50 per person), so it's best to only snack at mid-day. Make evening dinner the only meal you pay for in Oslo.

It is handy to the airpot express train and other trains plus it is in the heart of Oslo with buses easily negotiated for further sites. Lots of drug activity below your window, but they did not seem to bother people.

The Scandic Byporten is right at the train station so if train travel, even if just to or from the airport, is in your plans, it couldn't be more convenient. It is also convenient to the city trams and many of the major city attractions are within walking distance.

The Combination tour at the port isn't bad but, the 50' cruise just isn't long enough, and they never give you time to see things properly. You might not agree but 10' per museum is far too short for me. There's loads to see. The Town Hall is a must-see!!! The inhabitants are attractive and fathers are caring. Sit down and watch people passing by. ENJOY!

If you're in Oslo for the sightseeing an 'Oslo pass' is a must. It includes free public transport, entrance into almost all attractions and even discounts at some restaurants.

The Hotel Staff were extremely helpful and kind. We arrived in Oslo at 7.30am and they allowed us to check into our room early. The staff couldnt have been nicer and offered us a late check out the following morning and served us complimentary coffee whilst we waited for our late train departure the following day. If ever going back to Oslo would deffo stay there again....oooh and the breakie was amazing!!!

Oslo is a graet place to see in particular if you are interested in viking history I found the Norwegials friendly and very helpful abd all spoke excellent english The hotel is placed within a 100 m of the central station ( exit west side)The reception staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help up The breakfast is excellent and will last you for the day the restaurant is also good in the evening Be prepared Norway is frightfully expensive,as it is ourside the EU I suggest that you buy a 1 litre bottle of spirits in the duth free as alclhol is more expensive than food example dinner 220 Knr botle of wine 330 Knr.If going in winter get the tube to the ski jump or get off at the last stop and walk to the beautifil restaurant. Visit Lillyhammer by train Enjoy Norway
