A short guide to Malaga

One of Spain’s biggest ports and the provincial capital, Malaga’s city centre has undergone a major facelift in recent years to attract many tourists who would usually pass straight to the local resorts. The historic centre features narrow streets surrounding the iconic lopsided cathedral. Plaza Merced is the birthplace of artist Pablo Picasso. Above it all sits the hilltop fortress of the Alcazaba.

"Practical Hotel right in the centre of Malaga"  by D from Dublin

This Hotel is modern, new and practical - right in the centre of Malaga pedestrian area, the only drawback was we were facing the pedestrian street on a Saturday night and the noise was unreal! As it was March and ca 28C, the aircon wasn't set to cold yet, so we couldn't sleep very well, but otherwise great hotel

"Relaxing and enjoyable stay"  by S from Ireland

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Room Mate Larios. The location is perfect, right in the center of the refurbished shopping district, at the top of Calle Marques de Larios on the left (it is a bit hard to spot -- if you get as far as the little square, you've gone too far). The breakfast was lovely, self-service in a big room overlooking the square and the street, with newspapers to browse through in various languages. The staff were helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay again, or try another Room Mate hotel in another Spanish city.

"Very satisfactory hotel"  by E from Dublin

Good location, about 15 minutes walk from train station and in pedestrianised street, nicely decorated for Christmas. Helpful staff, well-lit room, decent bathroom.

"Going the extra mile"  by E from London

I booked a room at the Room Mate Larios because it advertised as being an Art Deco hotel...ok, so the decor is just about Art Deco but doesn't match the pix on the web page. STILL all this paled into insignificance as the service was so, so great. We had to leave very early in the morning and the night shift guy really put himself out to prepare us a beautiful breakfast and lay it out on a spotlit table in the dining room, even though the kitchen was offically closed and kitchen staff not due to arrive for another hour. We were so touched and it really took the sting out of our early departure. The location is great, the 5th floor terrace bar has stunning views and lovely staff. I'd definitely go back.
