Description

Location. A former trader's house dating from the 18th century, the Casa de los Mercaderes is a traditional hotel in Seville city centre. Set on a quiet cobbled street, it is situated between the historic and commercial centres, within 200 metres of Plaza San Francisco, the cathedral, and the shops of calle Sierpes. Seville Airport (SVQ) is 14 kilometres away.
Hotel Features. Guests relax on wicker chairs and enjoy a coffee beneath the intricate coloured glass roof of the central patio, with its marble floors and columns, potted palms, and Moorish lamps. Concierge staff provide advice on sightseeing and tour bookings in the city and surrounding area. Two complimentary, high-speed Internet PCs are available in the lobby for the use of all guests. For business guests there is meeting room for 15 people, as well as fax services. Beneath the hotel lies a parking garage (surcharge).

Although the Casa de los Mercaderes does not have a restaurant, buffet breakfast (surcharge) is served each morning and guests can enjoy snacks and drinks throughout the day in the courtyard. Room service is also available.

Guestrooms. The 47 air-conditioned guestrooms are spread over two floors and have light decor featuring floral motifs, and cherry wood furniture. Beds have wrought iron or cherry wood frames. Amenities include satellite TV, minibars, and safes. Marble bathrooms feature Andalusian-style tiles, and complimentary toiletries.

Expert Tip. The tower of the Giralda, attached to the cathedral and 200 metres from the hotel, is one of Seville's most recognisable and emblematic sights. Originally built as a Muslim minaret and once the tallest tower in the world, the Giralda is now open to the public. A 98-metre ramp goes to the top of the tower, which offers one of the best views across the city.

Easy choice

Great hotel on the edge of Santa Cruz . Tourist life in one direction and local color in the other. Well run hotel. Easy walk anywhere in old Sevilla. Cool.

Best tourist spot, would return to this hotel

Loads of Tappas bars 4 cheap tasty food, wine, beers, coffee & fresh orange juice, try them all, leave the hotel food for the bored! Best eating in ages! April was 24-28c,not too many tourists but I would not attempt in summer. The streets did get busy but manageable. Additional tourists, the narrow streets & the heat of a summers day (40c)could be very uncomfortable. Even in April there were queues for the sights. Go out of season if you can & see the real Seville, well worth it!

Great Location

There were some important bull fights going on at the Sevilla bullring, which I think is the oldest and most prestigous one in the world. We bought tickets off of someone on the street, but the price was what was printed on the ticket. The fights were really interesting, not as hard to watch as I anticipated and the crowd was fascinating. I'd do that again in a heartbeat! We went to a Flamenco Show that was recommended and arranged by the hotel desk - it was excellent!

just a little difficult to find

Seville is not set out like Barcelona or New York, in the old quarter it is a maze of tiny streets many one way and the hotel is just off one of these streets in a pedestrian area. Just look out for a pedestrian sign and mount the kerb and park there. The hotel is very close by at this point and they will park the vehicle for you. Hotel very pleasant but our room was rather dark but well situated for all the sites and restaurants etc

Smart and convenient value

If you're going to Spain for a weekend, don't forget that on Monday nothing is open and most shops are closed on Sunday or Tuesday as well. As such you might want to go over a Thursday to Sunday rather than a Saturday to Tuesday.
