Overview

Location.

A Victorian-style hotel built in 1909, The St. Anthony is located in San Antonio, Texas, and stands one block from the San Antonio River Walk and two blocks from Buckhorn Museum. The Alamo is three blocks from the property. Rivercenter Mall is four blocks from the hotel. La Villita, the site of old San Antonio, is six blocks from the property.

Hotel Features.

The St. Anthony displays historic funishings with exquisite French Empire antiques and original paintings by Remington, Cartier and DeYoung. Chefs at the Madrid Room prepare American Southwestern cuisine. Pete's Pub is a traditional Victorian pub serving cocktails and light fare in an elegant atmosphere. The hotel hosts more than 22,000 square feet of event space, including a 3,600 square foot ballroom, an open-air rooftop terrace and 22 function rooms. Wireless Internet access is complimentary in public areas of the hotel. Property amenities include a sixth-floor terrace that overlooks downtown and houses a rooftop pool, a spa tub and a fitness center with cardiovascular machines and strength-training equipment. A worship directory in the lobby lists contact information to all surrounding churches and corresponding faiths in the city.

Guestrooms.

The St. Anthony's 352 guestrooms are polished in Queen Anne-style décor, with antique replicas and custom-tailored bedspreads and window dressings. Rooms feature four-poster queen beds and chenille sofas. Brass lamps illuminate in-room writing desks. Each room provides video game consoles, cable television and high-speed Internet access. Restored black-and-white-tiled bathrooms feature pedestal sinks.

Expert Tip.

Outside Pete's Pub, a black-and-white photo displays Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Shirley Temple, Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth visiting The St. Anthony. Other lobby photos include a snapshot of Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, and one of John Wayne taken during the filming of The Alamo. The guest register reveals famous signatures from decades past.

A short guide to Downtown - Riverwalk

The languid San Antonio River and its famed River Walk connect many downtown attractions, including the Alamo Plaza and HemisFair Park. Built for the 1968 World’s Fair, HemisFair Park is the site of the 750-foot Tower of the Americas. Visitors, though, won’t forget the Alamo, site of the legendary 1836 battle between Mexican soldiers and Texan secessionists. Nearby, Mexican goods fill El Mercado.

"Old fashioned or just plain old"  by D from London

The hotel 'pub' was closed through out the stay. The hotel main bar was often closed/reserved, for conferences etc. The bed must have been the highest I've ever slept in, big enough to keep suitcases under. The decor looks old fashioned and feels it. Gym is basic, only cardo kit, but functional and nice views. The pool is reasonable for a roof top pool (although on 6th floor, not the main roof). Best used if your not planning on staying in your room much. Apart from the gym and pool there is no reason to hang around the hotel. It is located well for the river walk, and Alamo, being only a couple of blocks from each. Nice views if your looking over the park.

"HISTORIC HOTEL"  by L from ALLOA SCOTLAND

HOTEL WAS CENTRALLY SITUATED FOR MOST OF THE HISTORIC SITES. POOL WAS NOT OPEN WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED AS THEY WERE DOING RENOVATIONS. BREAKFAST IN THE HOTEL HAD A WIDE VARIETY OF FOOD CHOICES.
