Nice Budget Hotel

I think that renting a car would make things so much easier if you are going to stay at the Clifto Hotel.

It might be cheap but it's not anything like value for money

We picked the Clifton Hotel as I wanted to be within walking distance of Pembleton Road and the pictures online looked impressive. Unfortunately the hotel is undergoing a rennovation and they have started in the most lucrative part first - i.e. the basement bar which is nice but not why we were there. The twin room we stayed in was very small with not so much as a chair. It stunk of damp, the walls were grimy, the carpet looked unclean, the beds were very old and worn and the mattresses were to put it mildy, dead - springs gone and very uncomfortable. The shower room was tiny and and ridden with damp, no light in the temperamental shower which had a blocked drain so only one of us got a shower. The only positive was that the sheets were clean and we were only there for 1 night. Very disappointing considering it's supposed to be 2 stars.

Reasonable and comfortable but not quite swish

Breakfast at the hotel was pretty expensive. Try Rocotillo's 50s Diner on the Clifton Triangle (near the Wills Building) for a really good breakfast in relaxed, friendly surroundings. For dinner, suggest Yia Mass (Greek) on Park Street, or the excellent Cathay Rendezvous (Chinese), just off Queen Square.

Not the best

I wouldn't stay here again, i know it's only a 2 star but the hotel was very shabby. We booked a no smoking room but ended up in a smoking room and the smell was absolutely disgusting. For the second night we were moved to a no smoking room, however the noise from Racks bar below (which is actually very nice and therefore very popular) was absolutley horrendous, the walls and floor of the room were vibrating, we even tried putting the tv on to drown out the noise but it didn't work! We phoned reception to see if they could ask for the music to be turned down slightly and they said as it's a seperate venture they have very little control over what they can do. Thankfully there was another room available, but trapsing through the hotel at 11pm at night in your pjs and suitcases isn't ideal! I'm not normally one to write on these sort of pages but just wouldn't want anyone else to have as little sleep as we did!

Good for short stays

For a place to stay in Central Bristol in walking distance of Whiteladies and the centre it is ideal. Hotel bar lively and with good food, staff friendly.

Good Service but Bad Room

The staff were very friendly and provided good service. The room was compact but fine for one person. However, during the night and in the evening the room was freezing and the shower provided very little water although it was hot. I stayed in one of the top eves rooms so i imagine that may have affected the temperature and the water pressure for the shower, perhaps a room on a lower floor may have been better but unfortunately mine was not great.
