Directions

From Edinburgh Airport (EDI):
Distance to The Royal British Hotel is 8 miles, approximately 20 minutes' drive.

Getting there. Airlink 100 operates express bus services to the city centre. Buses run every 10 minutes and depart from the bus station next to the terminal. An open-return pass costs 5 GBP. The N22 night bus runs between midnight and 4 a.m. Taxis wait at a rank next to the terminal, and cost approximately 10 GBP-20 GBP to the city centre, depending on traffic and time of day. Waverley, Edinburgh's main railway station, can be reached by bus or taxi. Regular trains leave Waverley for Glasgow and most major destinations throughout Scotland and England. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. The Royal British Hotel is in the centre, on Princes Street. Edinburgh city and the Lothian region are served by a good bus network. There are hop-on, hop-off stops for city bus tours throughout central Edinburgh. Black cabs are available from the streets. The historic centre's cobbled streets are best explored by foot. Driving is not recommended for visitors, due to the complicated one-way systems. The hotel does not offer free parking, but it does have special rates for customers at the nearby Greenside Car Park on Leith Street.

Driving directions. From Edinburgh Airport:
Follow the signs for the A8, city centre.
This will take you to the west end of Edinburgh's famous Princes Street.
Turn left here onto Queen Street, which runs parallel to Princes Street.
Drive along the length of this road and turn right onto South St Andrews Street.
Turn right onto Princes Street and the hotel is here, close to Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station.

Perfect location- Would stay again

As I climbed up out of Edinburgh's Waverly Train Station with one bag too many, I thought, "Let my hotel be close!" There in front of me were the words "Royal British Hotel"!!! It could not have been closer! I really liked the Princes' Street location, easy to pop out the door and go sightseeing, find a shop or restaurant. VERY easy to cross the street from the train station and be there already. One night- a Friday- there was blaring music from a nearby pub or disco, but I travel with earplugs (important tip, esp in "budget range" hotels!) and it wasn't a big deal. The very next night, there was no noise at all, so clearly it isn't a constant thing. I would stay here again in a flash. The price was great, the room clean, the desk staff friendly, and the bed comfortable. Also, if you arrive by plane, the "AirLink" bus that connects the airport to the train station also stops about a block away, on Waverly bridge. Verrry convenient!

Location, and more...

The Falkirk Wheel is a marvel, both as an engineering masterpiece and a work of art. Roughly half an hour by train to any of the 3 Falkirk train stations. I did it to Camelon, walked along some of the best preserved parts of the Antonine Wall, then along the Union Canal, through the tunnel, arriving at the wheel from above. After riding the wheel, returned to Camelon along the Forth & Clyde canal.

A good choice overall

Everything is expensive comparing to what we pay in the states. Treat the pound sign as dollar sign, otherwise you will be starving. Finding a near-by super market (Sainsburry is a couple of blocks away) to get your snacks, sandwiches, fruits and drinks there. Having a big lunch in an all-you-can-eat Italian buffet in the ARK building or trying some authentic Chinese "Dim sum" in Saigon Saigon (two blocks away).

My vacation in Scotland

The hotel it's self was beautiful with it's old world look. Yes there were flaws, but it just added to the atmosphier. My room was everything I expected. Clean and well kept. The service was one in a million. All the staff were ready to help in every way. This trip was my first over seas experiance and I was nervous about everything, but the hotel staff made me feel safe and right at home as if I were one of the family. Any questions I had, they were right there to help out. if I ever get a chance to go back to Scotland, I know where I'm going to stay!

Hotel review

room was filthy, couldn't touch anything, very badly needs to be revamped and cleaned. the only difference between this and a hostel was that you had your own room
