Luxury stay, affordable prices

I recently stayed for 2 days in a regular queen room at The Glasshouse. My mother was traveling as well and had a separate room. We were both surprised with the generous size of the rooms. The rooms are all on the 3rd floor - rooftop - with a beautiful garden and a fantastic view. One of the highlights of the trip for me was going out the French doors of my room to the garden at sunrise to sit and enjoy the view while drinking some tea. The step in glass shower was terrific (and unusual for the area) and the bath large and luxurious. I found the only draw-back was the air conditioning unit was not easy to operate and was not working well, so the room was a bit warm. The temps in Edinburgh were unusually high during our stay. The continental breakfast was high-quality and service sunny and pleasant. The concierge/desk service was helpful in recommending restaurants and getting cab service. The area is next to The Playhouse, so theatre tickets inhanced our stay. Momma Roma's Italian restaurant across the street was superior. The walk to Waverly Station for the tour buses and trains was managable for even my mother, who is in her 70's. The trains go everywhere at an affordable price. We went to St. Andrews for about euro 33 for 2, and the train was pleasant and safe, without the hooligans we have in the US! A terrific experience and I would definitely return.

Satisfactory almost perfect

The overall experience was satisfactory. Two small drawbacks, the air conditioning/ heating system control panel is not straightforward to operate, and if you ask the hotel staff for wake up calls or restaurant reservations, you might want to double-check to got it right as they seemed not to be the the sharpest at these things.

Fantastic!!

Excellent hotel , situated about 5 minutes walk from Princes St in the centre of Edinburgh . Right next door to the Omni Centre . Check in was quick and efficient , the receptionist asked if we were familiar with Edinburgh, which we were ! If we had said no , I was given the impression that she would have rattled off a list of things to see and do ! Were shown to our room by a pleasant and chatty member of staff. Room was The Lagavulin Suite which exceeded my expectations , lovely size , huge shower and bath and although the view wasnt the best, the whole ambience of the room was ! totally recommend this hotel !!

Fabulous modern hotel.

You must see typical things such as the castle, and go on the City bus tour. Climb the George monument for stunning views.(its on the main shopping street). We went on the Real Mary Kings Close tour (underground city..what remains of it). V interesting. Have a fun time - take warm clothes!

Mostly Great

Get Breakfast included with the room rate or eat somewhere else. You don't need a car, almost everything is within walking distance. Taxis are expensive, but parking is outrageous so you save money by leaving the car at the airport and taking a taxi.

Very Good

Well-appointed, modern room - if slightly claustrophobic. Good shower, interesting toiletries. I am baffled by their choice of design for the shower door which (in our room at least), caused a puddle of water to gather on the floor outside the shower unit. I also wonder if female guests might find the artistic photos of naked women a bit odd in their hotel room - within full view of the bed! Perhaps there are naked men in other rooms (pictures, I mean). Too much 'give' in the mattress for my taste; my girlfriend liked it though - it may become a sore point between us. Very friendly service, good location for the city centre.

Luxury in the heart of Edinburgh!

Wonderful location with easy walking access to Old Town and New Town and to St. James Shopping Center. Literally next door to the Playhouse Theatre where we took in two great shows. Only wish we could have stayed longer and perhaps someday we shall. We definitely will recommend this hotel to others!

comfy, classy hotel in a great city

We really enjoyed staying at the Glasshouse. Each room was named after a Scotch Whiskey with a free sampling inside the room. Very comfy and quiet but close to lots of activity.
