Description

Location. Club Quarters, Gracechurch is located across from the popular Leadenhall Market in London, England. The River Thames flows four blocks from the hotel, while the West End theatre district is located less than two kilometres away.
Hotel Features. This hotel, constructed above a 2,000-year-old Roman basilica, features an Edwardian-style lobby with high ceilings, leather chairs, and marble-clad walls hung with commemorative artwork. Complimentary newspapers and a selection of books are available in the lobby. The Gaucho Grill prepares Argentine fare with limited hours on weekends. Crosse Keyes Public House adjoins the hotel and serves draft beers, spirits, wines and light dishes into the late-evening hours. A limited-hour business centre offers fax, print and photocopy services, and is equipped with complimentary high-speed Internet access. Wireless Internet access is complimentary. Function space accommodates up to 20 people. A complimentary, limited-hour fitness room houses cardiovascular machines, free weights, a water fountain and private changing rooms.

Guestrooms. The seven-story Club Quarters, Gracechurch offers 203 guestrooms furnished with brushed-brass wall lamps, teak headboards, teak-veneer desks, and ergonomically designed desk chairs. Most bathrooms contain showers only. Easy-access power sockets accommodate laptop users. High-speed wired and wireless Internet access is complimentary.

Expert Tip. Leadenhall Market is a popular cobblestone-paved, glass-covered retail center located across from the hotel. At one time, the market served as a slaughterhouse. A goose named Old Tom distinguished himself as a dedicated escapee who eventually merited celebrity status. Following the gander's death in 1835 at the age of 38, he lay in state and was ultimately buried at the market.

Directions

From London Heathrow Airport:
Approximate distance to the hotel is 29 km (18 miles).

Getting there. The Club Quarters, Gracechurch is located in the City district. Express trains travel from both airports into the center of London, for transfers to taxis or the Underground. The Underground station nearest the hotel is Monument.

Getting around. Taxis are readily available and can be hailed from the sidewalk. Although parking facilities are nearby, there are heavy fines for drivers who forget to pay congestion zone tolls into central London.

London charges congestion zone fees within clearly designated areas of the city. Those who operate vehicles within these zones are assessed daily fees that apply Mondays through Fridays. The money-saving Oyster Card is a smartcard that stores up to 90 pounds of pay-as-you-go credit. It can be used on the Tubes, buses, DLR, trams and select national rail services throughout London. Oyster Cards are less expensive than single fares, and daily price capping automatically calculates the least expensive fare for single-day journeys. Oyster Cards can be purchased at the Oyster website, most Tube station ticket offices, at Oyster Ticket Stops, at select National Rail ticket offices, at select London Travel Information Centres, and by telephone at 0845 330 9876.

A great value for the money

The Borough Market, on Sat., is a fantastic feast for the eyes and the stomach....wonderful artisan cheeses and charcuterie, as well as amazing breads and more exotic food fare!!! Just a short walk across London Bridge!

Excellent service

The Wetherspoon pub next door serves very reasonably priced food. There is a door into the pub directly from the hotel for residents only.

Good Location

I booked this hotel on the strength of the other reviews and I was very pleased I did, it is definitely more a business class type of hotel but if you are wanting to stay in a quiet, clean area with good access to two tube stops, and within walking distance of many tourist attractions (The Tower of London, St Pauls, Tate Modern)it's perfect. I did notice in previous reviews that the area the hotel is in is quiet at the weekends, and this is very true, all the shops in the area are closed on Saturday and Sunday but as you are so close to other areas of London this isn't really a problem. The room was small but very clean and the shower was great. Would definitely stay here again.

Good value and location

After reading several reviews off Expedia, I decided to go with the Club Quarters, Gracechurch. Room was a decent size, and it is just a few minutes walk from the Tube (Monument station I think). For the price I got the room for off Expedia, this can't be beat. They also offer free bottled water and high-speed internet - not necessary, but a nice touch.

Great hotel for the price

The hotel was a good price for what you get. The finanacial district has a lot of places to eat on the weekdays. However, everything is closed on the weekend. You can walk over London bridge, where there are lots of restaurants that are opened. It's maybe a 10 min. walk. The hotel is close to two tube stations...very convenient. The restaurant, Gaucho, in the hotels was very nice too.
