It is what it is

Basically you get what you pay for. If you just need a place to lay your head in the incredibly expensive city of London then it's fine. Very central and there is A/C. No lift and we were on the top floor, winding vertigo-inducing staircase, plus baggage = adventure workout, but besides that it was fine.

Nice hotel in Sussex Gardens

The Orchard is in a terrific location, near Paddington Station and its connections to Heathrow and the west, as well as Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. The Paddington Tube stop is just a few minutes walk, while Lancaster Gate is only a bit further, and right across Bayswater Road from Kensington Gardens. Nearby are several excellent pubs and ethnic restaurants. I had some excellent Lebanese and Indian food. I

A nice place to stay

Walk towards Hyde Park and go up the 2nd street on the right for some great places to eat and a nice pub for a drink afterwards.

Crows never fly with 6 pieces of luggage.

Orchard Hotel says "Getting there: Take the Heathrow Express train service to Paddington Station, which is 100 metres from the hotel." My wife and I wonder if they also own mountain property in Florida. The truth is that Orchard Hotel is closer to 1/2 mile from Paddington Station. If you have luggage take a taxi.

Cheaper than some but very basic

The wakeup call for 900 AM was late. I was late for breakfast and they wouldn't serve me. On the positive side I saw no creepy crawlies, the place looked relatively clean, but I was on the second floor and had to climb a narrow staircase with heavy bags and no help offered. Seniors would be advised to travel light, or bring a defibrillator.

Very well situated

The uderground can be expensive to use so buy a day pass instead of single tickets, you will use it more than twice a day, its so handy.

Dirty and not suitable for families

The hotel room was dirty with marks all over the walls, and the bathroom (which was so small you couln't brush your teeth with the door closed)had a dirty shower, a used dirty bar of soap and no plug in the sink making it impossible for shaving or the kids to wash their face! The hotel doesn't provide tea/coffee facilities in the rooms so you have to leave the children in the room alone to go down to the lounge to make a drink. The continental breakfast is a choice of cornflakes and toast, cornflakes, or toast and the english breakfast consisted of 1 rasher of bacon, a small sausage, an overcooked egg, a spoonful of beans and toast. However, on our second morning the sausage was replaced by a small croquet potato! When fruit juice was offered it was obviously strong cordial and not fruit juice. When I asked for no beans on my breakfast the waitress pulled a face and walked off mumbling to herself. This hotel obviously have a different concept of breakfast than I do. The majority of the staff spoke very broken English and (with the exception of the French girl on reception) were very unhelpful. I would not stay in this hotel alone, never mind take my children there again.
