Directions

From London Heathrow Airport (LHR):
Distance to the Royal Court Apartments is 18 miles, approximately 45 minutes' drive.

Getting there. The Heathrow Express train is the quickest way into London. It departs from the airport every 15 minutes, and takes 15 minutes to reach Paddington Station in central London, which is 500 metres from the hotel. The journey is non-stop and costs 14.50 GBP. Paddington is on the Hammersmith and City, District and Circle, and Bakerloo lines of London's Underground (Tube). Additionally, the airport is on the Piccadilly line of the Underground, which runs directly to Kings Cross, Leicester Square, Knightsbridge, and Green Park underground stations. The journey to central London takes approximately one hour, and trains depart every 10 minutes. A one-day travel pass costs 6.30 GBP, including travel to Heathrow (in zone 6). Black taxis cost approximately 50 GBP to central London. Coaches operate to London Victoria and the rest of the UK, and the airport is also served by local buses. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. The hotel is on Gloucester Terrace, less than 500 metres from Kensington Gardens. The London Underground (Tube) and buses are the easiest ways to travel within London. The nearest Tube station to the hotel is Lancaster Gate or Paddington. Single tickets are expensive, but an electronic Oyster card offers cheaper fares for all ticket types. Oyster cards can be purchased from ticket offices for 3 GBP (refundable). Daily or weekly travel passes are the most economical way to travel, and are valid on buses, trams, trains and DLR, as well as on the Underground. Black taxis are available on the streets, but can be expensive. Driving is not recommended for visitors and a congestion charge zone is operated in central London.

Reasonable for the price

All central London hotels cost twice what is reasonable; this one is a good value if you want a place to live for a few days. The hotel and furniture are old and decrepit, but serviceable. There is a separate bedroom (typically two comfortable single beds head-to-toe) so one person can sleep while the other stays up late. There is a very small bathroom and tiny shower into which an adult male can barely fit, so taking a shower takes extra time but is doable. The kitchenette is basic, and has everything you need but a heat oven. It's a ten minute walk past Paddington Station to a Tesco where you can buy food (much cheaper than restaurants). Our room in back was very quiet. There is no ventilation except what you get by keeping the windows open, so a hot summer night could be a problem. There is broadband wireless Internet in the lobby only.

Hotel Reveiw

Our room was one of the better ones on the 4th floor we stayed in this hotel 2 years ago and booked the same room we had previously. Rooms on floors 2 and 3 were in dire need of repairs my brother was in room 304 even the refigerator was broken. My daughter and son in law were on floor 2 as well as two grand children. It seems as if the refurbishing of the hotel started and ended on the 4th floor. I would not recommend it to another party unless they could book the fourth floor. The facility is very conveniet for my wife and I and I would book it again but only if I could get a room on the fourth floor street side. The desk staff was very nice and always helpfull.

Very basic

I booked this hotel because it had an elevator and a hairdryer. I was originally given a room on the 5th floor. The elevator only went to the 4th floor. The receptionist and bellhop argued over whether he could help with my luggage. After showering, I looked for the hairdryer. I was told it was available at the frontdesk for a 10 pound deposit. They did bring it up to me when I objected. The room on the 5th floor was very nice clean and new. I had booked a room with a kitchen for the next few nights and that room was very different. Very old, decrepit looking, and the bathroom ceiling light leaked. The elevators kept breaking down too. The lobby is very nice - rather deceiving. The plus was the kitchen and location.

Good if on a budget

Myself and two friends shared an appartment for 2 nights. Apart from being a little cramped and only having the one shower (which was more like a dribble) between 3 girls and the room in need of some upgrading, it was clean and did the job. Staff were pretty helpful and friendly. 5 min walk from tube. Overall acceptable if on a lower budget.

Decent overall; good for the price

Pretty good location close to Lancaster Gate tube stop. Nothing else much around at all. Condition is smack dab in the middle of brand-new and run-down. No A/C. Bathroom could have been cleaner (there was some nice mold in mine). Good value for money if all you need is a place to lay down for 6-8 hrs/day.

Shabby but great price

The rooms are shabby but clean, quirky layout, great location, got a great price through Expedia, front desk and other staff are terrific. However, the room was very hot and there is no air con (or even a breeze from the window). Comfortable bed. Kitchenette very convenient - again, not luxury amenities but adequate and clean. All in all a few inconveniences for the great convenience of price, proximity to Paddington train and Lancaster Gate tube stations, Hyde Park, walking distance to many attractions, etc. Actually enjoyed it very much and would definitely stay there again, unless I win the lottery.

disturbed in sleep

We had arrived late the night before and wanted to sleep in, so we had requested for a late check out which was granted (till 12 noon). However, this information was not passed on to the cleaning staff who opened our door to come in at 10am to clean the room when we were still in bed...and even after being told to come back after 12noon (when we were leaving) returned with someone else ten minutes later, knocking loudly on our door to try to enter. I do not think the first cleaner understood what we said the first time in English, so may have gone to call someone else who did comprehend, only to interrupt our sleep a second time around! Not a pleasant experience, and marred what could have been a pretty nice stay in London!

A dump.

Close to Hyde Park, but far from the usual tourist attractions.

This is one of the worst hotels that I have stayed in.

The room was not the cleanest, the sitting are was dreary, the toilet area had a lot of cob webs. The decor had not been touched for as lot of years as the carpets. The only plus was that the bed linen and towels were changed daily. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone and will not be back.
