Description

Location. The Sanctuary House rises five stories above the historic Tothill Street in London, England. Less than 300 meters away, Westminster Abbey is the site of royal coronations. Moreover, the House of Parliament and Big Ben stand 500 meters from The Sanctuary House hotel. Buckingham Palace hails from 700 meters away. The Sanctuary House is located 40 kilometers from London Heathrow Airport.
Hotel Features. The Sanctuary House greets guests with fresh coffee in the lobby. The reception desk offers twenty-four hour service and provides safe-deposit boxes and business services. Moreover, the onsite Fuller's Ale & Pie House serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in traditional pub- style surroundings. The eatery also features an array of wines and ales.

Guestrooms. The Sanctuary House offers 34 guestrooms. Rooms display dark wood headboards, side tables and dining sets. Beds and windows are arrayed in wine- colored fabrics and upholstered seating features jewel-toned plaids. Brass light fixtures and framed European prints accessorize the rooms. Satellite television service provides in- room entertainment. The Sanctuary House also supplies complementary bottled water, and coffee/tea facilities dispense hot beverages. Private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries complete the guestroom amenities.

Expert Tip. A guest tour of Westminster Abbey includes a somber visit to the burial place of The Unknown Warrior. The tomb of the British soldier serves as a memorial to all unidentified fallen soldiers.

Great location

Although we had several drinks at the pub, we found that the food was about 50% more than the going rate.

Location, Location, Location

The St. James tube stop is half a block from the hotel, but the Westminster stop is two blocks and gets you directly onto the Red Line.

Highly Recommend

Near the hotel there are plenty of places to eat at lunch but not a lot of choices except pub food (there are a few in the area) for dinner. I'd recommend Pret (they're all over London) for a quick and cheap lunch - their sandwiches are fantastic!!!!

Good hotel. Good location.

Given the exchange rate, the best value in dining is in the local pubs.

Perfect Location

We stayed seven days at the Sanctuary House, and it is a great place. It is one block from the St. James' underground stop, two blocks from St. James' park, and 4-5 blocks from Westminster Abbey and Parliament. Yet is on a quiet street. It is a small hotel in a charming building; rooms are comfortable and the price is right. Overall - outstanding.

Hotel is Fine Location is Great

Stayed at the Sanctuary House for two weeks in September. The room was fine...comfortable, clean and not cramped. The pub downstairs is really handy if you've walked all day and don't feel like wandering far for a meal. Several more pubs in the immediate area but you'll have to go afield for "nicer" dining. The location is marvelous. A short walk to Westminster Abbey, Parliament, Buckingham Palace and St James's park. And assuming you'll use the tube, which is really the only sensible way to move about London, half a block to the tube station. A moderate walk to the Tate Britain. Located in a busy area by day but quiets down, except for pub activity which isn't particularly boisterous, at night. I can't think of any reason to stay any place else if the Sanctuary House has a vacancy. Do use the tube to get about. Buy an Oyster card for the tube since single ride cash prices are ridiculous. Best deal by far is a seven day travelcard, even if you only use it for five or six days. Oyster and travel cards work on the bus system too. Food costs about twice what you'd expect. Not much help with that but Pret (found all over) is OK for light breakfast and lunch and cheaper than most.

Late September in London

Great rate, super location as it is within 5-10 mins to walk to Big Ben, Westminister Abby, Buckingham Palace. Hotel is a few minutes away from the St James Tube (metro) station and from there you can easily get to all other parts of london, Harrods, Tower of London, China Town, theaters, etc. Use the Tube and get a 24 hour ticket then enjoy.
