A short guide to: Canary Wharf - Docklands

London’s 21st-century waterside business district, Canary Wharf is best known for its cutting-edge architecture, including the 50-storey obelisk-shaped skyscraper, One Canada Square. Get there by the Docklands Light Railway, with elevated tracks giving wonderful views into a world of glass and steel. By contrast, historic Greenwich, home to the National Maritime Museum, is just across the Thames. A foot tunnel links the two.

Average hotel

I was really expecting more than what I've got. Overall very dated decor and you can listen the DLR from some rooms.

Not memorable but perfectly fine

Having read other people's reviews, I was a bit nervous but everything worked out well. I had a one week stay and requested a quiet room which I was given. Except for a problem with the window (it wouldn't close properly, resulting in outside noise) which took 3 complaints to get resolved, everything was faultless. The hotel is a little tired looking and needs an update in decor but the staff were friendly and pleasant and the room spacious and clean. The swimming pool and spa area is rather disappointing, the pool smaller than it looks in the brochure and the steam roon etc all somewhat uncared for. A bit of a tidy would sort it out. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. The main asset is the location - just minutes from the tube, quiet and with the Jubilee Plaza and another shopping area (with Waitrose, M&S, countless restaurants etc) right beside it. Would definitely go back.

Nice place for a getaway

This hotel was a little out of the way, but we found it to be quite comfortable. The concierge was very helpful in planning excursions and taxis. We never had a problem getting a taxi at the time we needed one.

Adequate, but far from Extraordinary

Unless you have a very specific purpose for renting a car in London, I would recommend using London's top-notch mass transit system for getting around. Having a car is simply an additional expense; finding an economical place to park is almost impossible, and between the double-decker buses and the "tube" (subway) system, you can get almost anywhere in London efficiently and inexpensively. The only times that a car would be required would be for trips out into the surrounding countryside.

Very nice place to stay

Make sure you arrange your transportation to/from the airport ahead of time if you have a lot of luggage otherwise you'll be stuck taking the subway. But if this doesn't bother you then go for it. I wish I had been able to arrange transport. If you're going to be there for at least a week find out about the oyster card b/c I paid for the subway everyday & probably wasted a lot of money that way.

Fanastic quality hotel!

The condition of the hotel and its service was fantastic. We seriously enjoyed our stay at The International and if we ever go back to London again we would definitely consider staying at this hotel again.

Distinctly average

Initial impressions were good, with the hotel being easy to find (5 mins walk from Canary Warf tube station) and having a grand entrance hall and reception. However, the decor was dated and starting to look shabby. Comfortable enough, but "double room" was actually 2 single beds pushed together. Use of leisure facilities came at an extra charge, which was offputting, as were some of the smaller details (such as the kettle in the room not fitting under the tap). Staff weren't rude, but neither were they particularly friendly or helpful. Next time we would look to stay somewhere else.

A little tired, but generally pleasing hotel

Avoid rush hour if using underground 5pm-to-6pm is terrible, even when underground isn`t having problems
