Could do better

The hotel is a stunning and grand victorian building, which is worth a visit just to see the staircase. It is situated right in the middle of Manchester, walking distance to everything. We had room 508 on the top floor. It was very clean but had a damp problem which made it unpleasantly smelly. It had very old single glazing which let the noise from the street straight in. The whole hotel had hardly any ventilation and was extremely hot and stuffy. On top of that if you opened the window the noise from the street was unbearable. Its a shame because if they sorted these problems then this hotel would be amazing.

no fuss - no hot water

Convenient central location, smooth check-in, but I had a top floor room which was along a corridor and up a flight of stairs. The room was simple and clean, but the main light didn't work, street noise is noticable, the room was hot and airless and on the second day there was no hot water, put down to a 'power cut'. Would consider it again due to convenience and low(ish) price, car park nearby.

Not impressed

The hotel is brilliantly located and looks very comfortable, even grand, when you enter. But that's where it ends. Our room was on the first floor at the front of the hotel, right above the nightclub, which shut very late. The noise from the club and the street was enough to keep even the most tired of people awake.

Convenient city centre location

The building is obviously very old and a bit noisy downstairs with the bars etc. Great location and easy to get to from the main train station. Room was small but perfectly clean and comfortable. Only real complaint was the noise from outside which was definitely noticeable.

Decent good value

Very good location for central Manchester. Nearby secure parking - but at a price. Check in was quick, friendly and efficient. Overall feel of the hotel is that of somwhat faded grandeur. Large landings and wide corridors. Room was of excellent size and very clean and well serviced. Carpets/wallpaper and pictures etc rather dated. Good bathroom. Room was surprisingly quiet in spite of being in central Manchester - thanks to effective secondary double glazing. Did not try the food but menus seemed reasonable and plenty of choice for breakfast and other meals just outside the hotel if needed. Would definitely return - worth the money.

Glorious Sunny Room

I walked into my light and sunny room and was pleasantly surprised by large windows. The room was nicely furnished if not a little dated but this added to the ambianceof the room. The bathroom was clean and the bath was a nice size. The shower temp fluctuate whenever i used it but i was happy with bath instead. The noise from the main road did wake me up first thing in the morning. The Staff were always polite, helpful and very friendly. I would recommend this hotel and the room I stayed in to a more mature couple (30+) who would appreciate the great central location.
