Description


Location. On the northwestern coast of Ireland, between the Mountains of Mourne and the Irish Sea, rests the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa. This hotel stands on six acres of private grounds leading to an expansive golden beach and the Royal County Down Golf Course. Two blocks away is the lively resort town of Newcastle. The Castlewellan Country Park and Tollymore Forest Park are four miles away.
Hotel Features. Fashioned around Victorian architectural themes, the Slieve Donard is decorated with dark oaks and rich, vibrant hues in burgundy, gold and blue. The grounds surrounding the hotel are embellished with gardens of flowers that add a bright contrast to the rich fields of green. Meals are served on the hotel's grounds at the Oak Restaurant, offering a selection of Irish cuisine, or the more casual Percy French Grill, offering pub-style lunch and dinner. The hotel's spa overlooks the Irish Sea and offers guests a variety of services focused on relaxation that include 16 treatment rooms, rock saunas and an amethyst steam room. A gym and a 20-meter pool are also located on the spa premises. Hotel guests are treated to a complimentary Irish breakfast daily.

Guestrooms. Each guestroom at the Slieve Donard Hotel is decorated and furnished to compliment the hotel's stoic design. Cherry-stained wooden furnishings with lilac and cream upholstery are accentuated by light filtering in from the large-framed windows. Most of the 176 rooms offer views of the mountains, the bay the or golf course.

Expert Tip. The Slieve Donard Hotel's on-site bar, Chaplin's Bar, garnered its name from Charlie Chaplin who visited the hotel in 1921.

County Down's Best Hotel

Walking the promenade around the sea is a must. Percy French's restaurant located on the grounds of the hotel is also very pleasant, reasonably priced and family friendly. In addition, there are many hiking trails in the Mourne Mountains.

Ideal Location to relax off-season

The hotel is situated by the sea and you will have access to the beach through a guests entrance, the town is surrounded by the mourne mountains and they offer forest parks and excellent walking trails for anytime of the year. Local spots would have to be spelga dam or silent valley for the spectacular scenery. Or closer to the hotel you have the Royal County Down Golf Course (A must for Golfers)
