A short guide to: Kensington - Earl's Court

Upscale, residential Kensington is best known for its palace and gardens, and for its major museums in South Kensington —the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and the V&A. Earl’s Court has a wide selection of budget and mid-range hotels, clustered around Earl’s Court exhibition centre. Its Underground station offers good links (District and Piccadilly lines) with trains running to central London and south-west to Wimbledon.

Poor service

The hotel seemed to have plenty of staff. We made several requests to the desk staff and to the concierge including an item lost in a room change, and a restaurant booking and were not contacted with a response for any of them. There were often difficulties due to non English speaking staff. We were charged extra to use the pool on each occasion.

5 star prices 1 star service

The title says it all. Right from the first moment we stepped through the door we were disappointed. The staff were not very helpful, unfriendly and personally down right rude. If you do not want to work in the hospitality industry then find another job. The room was tiny and dirty, house keeping did a mediocer job of tiding up each day and the beer on tap was served with complimetary floating bits. I am not objecting to paying for quality as we regularly stay in five star hotels but this placing is charging the earth and delivering way below budget. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Good value - Business convenient

This is the second time I have stayed in the hotel. I was pleased to see that the rooms had been updated. The room is "London small" but spacious enough for one business traveler's needs. Lots of screens in the pub. Extremely convenient for getting around on the tubes. Short distance to Kensington Gardens for a jog. The only drawback is that the internet is a bit fickle. There is no hard wire and the wireless is not strong in all areas. I did OK but my colleague had to sit near the window to pick it up. Overall for cost, comfort, tube proximity, and price I'd stay again.

Excellent value

High Street shops within 5 minute walk as well as good tube and bus access. Get snacks at a local grocery. Also, get the Oyster card for tube and bus. Nice Thai restaurant 50 yds up the street and a coffee/muffin shop another 25 yds away! Quiet, safe neighborhood.

Definately not 4*

easyInternetCafe 5-10mins walk down Kensington High Street, 2 pounds per hour, or else choose free WiFi at McDonalds while eating that delicious Big Mac!

Ideal for business stop over but not really for a longer business stay

If your coming to London for more than just a few days, I wouldn't recommend this as your base, room too small to use as a comfortable office catching up on your paperwork at the end of the day. That said, room was quite and comfortable.

Excellent Location

This hotel was suggested by a friend living in London. The hotel is in a great area with a tube station very close by. The hotel was a little dated and the room was very small but the location made up for these short comings.

Disappointed

Was not impressed with the quality of room and hotel. After few nights stayed in Novotel St. Pancreas, Kensington Close is far from the expectations of Novotel. Despite it all, location of the hotel is good. Very convenient to tube and shopping areas

Not my idea of 4 star

Although this hotel is very central and has great shopping and restaurants on it's doorstep, I felt that 4 stars was very generous given the size of the rooms and also the decor is a bit 'tired'. Unfortunately we didn't have an opportunity to try the health spa but I don't feel a charge of GBP5 per day for hotel guests is justified. I would recommend this hotel to friends purely on the location.
